In Super Metroid, when you meet with Ridley on the research station and the self destruct begins, you actually have a chance to fuck up if you don't make it out in time. Super Metroid came out in 1994.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, when you're on a sinking ship, nothing happens if you just stand still and wait.
It will only happen things when certain triggers are activated by you passing them. COD: MW came out in 2007.

Now, how can Super Metroid be so much more advanced than a game made in 2007, when the technology has evolved hugely?

The point of COD isn't to win because you can't really fail. The point of COD is to feel really really cool, like you're in a Michael Bay movie, with all the depth and quality that implies.

Personally I like to actually play my games, not "experience" them, so COD and the whole "cinematic" thing just isn't for me.

Its because cod after 2 was rubbish, linear, over the top, for kids to play soldier.

The technology has nothing to do with it, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is just a different kind of game.

In the end, difficulty is largely irrelevant to how fun a game is.
