It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I am looking for suggestions on software, free or paid, which can cover the following:
Catalog photos either in situ, or within its own structure
Apply multiple tags to photos
Allow searching on tags
Run slideshow
Be fully offline, local install
For windows 64bit

Now I have had a look about, and there once was Picassa which was supposed to be the best, however this is no longer available anywhere as far as I can find. The other software which is presented as alternative always seems to be heavy on photo editing and manipulation and little else. I am only interested in organising my pictures (nearly 2tb!). Definitely not interested in anything online.
Worst comes to the worst I will just build my own DB for it, but wanted to check if there was anything already done.

(insert joke about porn collection management here)

Picasa is still available for download in some places - don't know if it works in Win 10 though...

For me the most important thing is hierarchical categories - like Who.Family.Kids.Kid1 or Where.Beach.Spain (with an alt Where.Spain.Beach). After many years of trying different products I gave in and bought Photools IMatch (https://www.photools.com/imatch/).

I've been using it for years now and it's really good for managing bazillion images (can also do movies and other files). There is a trial version available if you want to take a look. The only thing that worries me is that it's only available for Windows and I don't know if it'll run in Wine if I go Linux in 2020...

PS: I'm not affiliated with Photools - it's just the only product I found that met my requirements. It's also DRM-free - once you buy the full version you can download the installer (and any new version after that for 1 year) and it only phones home to check for updates). DRM is the reason I stay away from Adobe. Lightroom is supposedly very good too.

I use XnView MP. It should satisfy most of what you mentioned, but I don't think it will play slideshows.

CTRL-L is slideshow in XnView.

That no longer works in XnView MP and I don't currently have XnView Classic installed to be able to test it.

Thanks, I will take a look at that one. Your right on the heriachical, that sounds very useful. I had just imagined tags to find things, but organising like that would be beneficial.

Thanks, will have a look. While it looks nice as a viewer I couldn't see any tagging/organisational part. Not sure about having something called honeycam or honeyviewer on my desktop either ;o)

Yeah that's a problem.

In order to be more discreet and not give any people any bad ideas about me, I just rename those programs things like "Hot_Wet_Fucking" and "Giant_Dicks_and_Tits".

Oh hey Chandra! Yeah, just let me collect my things and I'll be leaving. :D

It's ok, tinyE will be around shortly with some base examples.

ACDSee Standard does it all and isn't too expensive.
The one that comes with Windows 10 is awful, that is all I can say.
I can think of several.

…They're all on Linux, so good luck finding a Windows Port.

Right now, I have Risotto installed as my photo manager, because I just keep my actual photos somewhere in Google Photos.

Themken: The one that comes with Windows 10 is awful, that is all I can say.
Because it's just a Photo viewer... no tagging or database features.
