InkPanther: So you say that they're just chilling in space and move whenever and wherever it suits them? ;)
Wait, I did a little searching and apparently both of them orbit the sun. Here, in case anyone is interested. I was under the impression that since we get to see comets, like Halley's comet and so on once every few years they were in orbit as opposed to asteroids which I thought were mostly stationary between Mars-Jupiter.Post edited January 12, 2016 by Hunter65536

Pretty interesting as some folks tought that the new sales system (permanent prices during the period) whould have led to less units sold."It seems this Steam Summer Sale was way more successful than the previous one: $236M vs $160M in revenue, 37M games vs 33M sold."

More than one year later, it's time to put some kind of retrospective on Steam Spy:

It seems that GOG is destined to never shed its "Good Old Games" moniker.http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/280417/Steam_Spy_and_the_specter_of_game_sales_transparency.php

Its a shame there is no proper statisics.
Personally I'd love to see some hard figures for number of Games sold during sales vs the number of the same game sold at full price for the rest of the year.
Last Steam Spy data I look at showed one in four games sold at discount during a sale, while the rest are sold at full (and often more expensive than new retail cost of physical console version) price.

Bumping since following Valve's decision to set all profiles to private, Steam Spy will no longer be updated:
https://steamed.kotaku.com/game-developers-mourn-and-celebrate-the-end-of-steam-1825188029
Supposedly the decision came following the Facebook backlash (not that this was ever a secret or anything). Though really, who actually knows what other companies like Netflix, Valve, and even GOG have been doing with your private data, since for some of these companies you may have their surveillance-ware installed....

Facebook is really the top of the iceberg on this. Just look at the main page of Netflix or sky or YouTube, they are all providing profiling to present suggestions, if they are one thing it's not daft enough to miss a trick and most likely use that day in other ways. https://steamed.kotaku.com/game-developers-mourn-and-celebrate-the-end-of-steam-1825188029

That being said, I don't believe GOG are competent enough to be big in the mass data profiling as yet, I mean they can barely push out a release post with the right link. Also, only a small percentage of games are always on, so the data capture is relatively small, although with galaxy is likely expanding rapidly. FB integration and using amazon servers however are far more worrying, these will be thrice scanning every bit for any possible information.

Sucks; I enjoyed seeing how well games were selling on Steam, especially indie titles that deserved success.

There are some theories going around saying that Valve might have felt forced to make the change in order to be compliant with GDPR by May 25.https://steamed.kotaku.com/game-developers-mourn-and-celebrate-the-end-of-steam-1825188029

Steamspy was such a great tool, and it's gone now. Unless STEAM starts making sales numbers freely available, which they never will, this is the end of an era. Never before, and never again, will we be privileged to have access to the analytics made possible by Steamspy. It's sad...
