There's such a thing as search filters. Just rank it all by ratings.
Does that actually work now? No clue, because I haven't used steam in something like 3 years (with the exception of getting GoG-Connect for a couple free games).

As I understood for a very very very very very long time, the front page and searches and everything were muddled as hell, 8/10 'new' games being shovelware like Barbie's Stable Adventures, and back catalogs from other 'publishers' making any spotlight for new games and indies nearly impossible.

No, it still is going to be heavily muddled. Let's not forget that a 7/10 rating is considered crap and 8/10 is average... somehow...

I find games fine on Steam and I usually only see AAA and popular indies on the front page.

...is it so hard to go to the website and see for yourself? Not like you have to buy anything.
