Hey everyone,
It's one of those times I have to (but also get to!) give you a heads up about an impending game removal.

Despite their best efforts, the devs behind Startup Company will not be able to maintain update parity between GOG.COM and other platforms. We've mutually agreed that it's best to delist the game from our catalog.

If you own the game on GOG.COM, you'll of course get to keep the game in your library. You can also reach out to our support team (support.gog.com) and request a refund, or get in touch directly with the developers at: support[at]hovgaardgames.com

Startup Company will be delisted on Monday, April 30.
thats a pity, altough makes me wonder how much effort is needed to update a game .. shouldnt it be as simple as uploading a new patch/binary ?

I don't have all the details, but Startup Company is still in development by a small studio – I can only assume that with the frequency of updates it can be a big challenge to maintain constant parity across more than one platform. It's a shame, but probably best for the game and everyone who purchases it on GOG.

Just a question, if peoples decide to keep the game, will it be upgraded to the full version once it is finished ? or will the final version not available on Gog neither?

Actually from what I read in the thread where he announced it he said it was more he didn't want to add Galaxy features like cloudsaving and achievements or even mod support due to low sales. People kept asking him so he wanted to remove the game.
Thanks for the heads up.Really appreciate them.As for the game, good riddance i guess.Cheers

Delisted as in permanently or will it be back once it's out of development and finished?

In that case I can understand where the 'too much effort' comes from. It's one thing to just upload new patches now and again. That shouldn't be difficult across different platforms. But if they have to integrate their game into Galaxy with achievents and yaddayadda, just to keep it here, that's a totally different level of effort. For comparatively low sales. So, totally OK that they decided to pull the game rather then spend more money on Galaxy-integration that they will probably earn in the end.

That wasn't just to keep it here though. It was just customers asking for it, customers are gonna ask for stuff they like.

Like omega64 said, I don't think it was GOG requiring them to implement those features or anything. But people kept asking and I guess the dev felt it was better to not have it on GOG at all rather than knowingly sell an 'inferior' version.
Could it also be for the ratings?
On Steam the game is "Mostly Positive" (7\10 via Google), whilst here it's already 2.8\5 (aka < 6\10).

Most small dev teams will only want to focus on one platform, trying to cater for more will cause delays and problems for them which doesn't help anyone and i'm sure they are frustrated trying to keep multiple platfoms updated as it is time consuming process.

I guess it's more that there are 1200+ reviews on Steam and 30 here.

From a business point of view it makes sense if the extra work to support different versions doesn't pay off. And at least it's honest on their part (and GOG's, I guess), as opposed to other devs that just stop updating their games here.
