A bridge across galaxies.

There has been an awakening... have you felt it? STAR WARS Battlefront II (Classic, 2005), the critically acclaimed shooter of massively entertaining warfare, has received a critical update. Powered by GOG Galaxy, the multiplayer function of the game has now been restored AND with added Crossplay support between GOG Galaxy and Steam to boot.

This long-awaited feature finally brings the entire STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II community together, no matter which part of the galaxy you come from, so go ahead and jump into the fray.

If you haven't experienced it yet, now's an excellent time to get STAR WARS Battlefront II (Classic, 2005), either on its own or as part of the STAR WARS Saber Bundle. Don't forget to check out the rest of our Force-sensitive deals too, all part of our big Disney Completion Sale.
Good work GOG!

paladin181: Good to know. Nothing major then, in my case. I have Widescreen mods and don't care for controller support or cheevos. Thanks for the information though. Awesome.
Also runs natively on OS X and Linux. Which is great as far as I'm concerned, just a bit annoyed that the previous game didn't get the same treatment (I understand the source was lost, so there's reason to it, still annoys me though).
Has any information come out about the crash at starting up multiplayer?

Thats umm nice but can we still download the older version pre-galaxy too?

I'm not seeing the option. My current install is quite heavily modded and understandably I have some reluctance in going through all that work again just yet with a brand new version without a fallback

same problem here :(. Please fix it

Johnathanamz: Can we expect more PC versions of video games that have multiplayer that used GameSpy to get GameSpy removed and get GOG Galaxy or 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free multiplayer?

I remember it was like in 2015 or so that a gog.com employee did say they will try to get GameSpy removed from a lot of the PC versions of video games that have multiplayer that used GameSpy.

Is gog.com pushing for this effort more now?

Konrad: I think that's a tough question to answer because there are so many factors involved. I know that for BF2 we had access to the source code and Disney's full support which made it possible, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I think that given the right opportunity, most Goglins would love to see it happen more often though.
Do you guys have the source to Galatic Battlegrounds? That could use a resolution patch, an offical one. That'd be so awesome.
Wow, unexpected. Amazing thing :o Thanks GOG and Disney for making this work.

Also thank you GOG for not going retard on the naming of the Star Wars games again.

On Steam they barely fixed the capitalization and TM title gore on the titles and now they changed it again lol.
From STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)
instead of just STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II (Classic, 2005) as on GOG.
Makes me laugh at how long that's gonna take them to fix again.

Now enough complaining, time to play :D

Hint: On another 'BF' notice, if you could get Battlefield (1942, Vietnam, 2 even 2142) running again with galaxy support... The dream.. Would throw my money at my monitor instantly. They currently work with special patches, but there are literally just a few servers on those amazing multiplayer games.. (and while one full server is enough to play, they deserve a GOG treatment) :(

But to be fair, the biggest factor involved on those is EA, sadly.

just a heads up, we are aware of that and currently investigating:

Eh mah geeeeeerd, this is amazing. Although I can't help but wonder why Disney would have agreed to this, considering that we now have a better Battlefront with multiplayer available to us than EA could ever create - and on GOG without shitty DRM no less...
Does the game now support 21:9 resolutions? My steam version of the game has a broken HUD when the game is played at 2560x1080 resolution.

Tpiom: Goglins? I thought the term was GOGolytes!

Like an acolyte: "a person [user] assisting a priest [gog] in a religious service [drm-cleansing] or procession."
avatar
Konrad: Depends who you're referring to.
I'm partial to goglodytes, but around here you'll also find gogres, pedagogs, and demagogues riding winnebagogs.
Someone called my name? :D

btw: BFII classic is not marked as updated in the game library - I suppose this is intentional because the brand new Galaxy-version is not an update?

StrawHatLuffy23: click multiplayer. game says busy then locks. have to open task manager and use keyboard to exit the game
When clicking multiplayer, you'll have a few very brief seconds where your mouse can still move. Quickly hit CANCEL and then you should be able to at least get to the menu for the list of games that are available.

However when i get to the menu for the list of games, there are no games online! It says "Not logged in" on the bottom left, and I can't see anyone online, even though steam says there's 1k. THAT'S what *I* need help with
Does this patch work with the CD version of the game? I still have that version lying around and was wondering if said update or patch would work on it.
Beautiful! I do hope you can get Aspyr's versions here eventually.
