PixelBoy: I would strongly recommend watching at least 10 episodes of the original Star Trek series. Otherwise you might be missing some important things, or not understanding how the Trek tech is supposed to work.

I suppose it is possible to play the games with no previous Trek knowledge, but they are modelled after Star Trek episodes, and try recreate everything that was part of the original series, including some of the guest characters being guest characters from the original series.
Or, you know, the whole original series while you are at it :) Out of all, TOS is by far my favourite.
It's not necessary to enjoy the game but perhaps OP might just get dragged into the Star Trek world and live long and prosper.
