https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/always_offer_patches_stop_forcing_us_to_download_the_whole_game_repeatedly

Titan Quest, being the biggest bitch for doing this, has been patched several times since it came to GOG, yet every sodding time, it has meant having to do a full download of the entire game install files.

That's 5.6gig of data every "patch" release, instead of actual patches like steam users & (beta/optional)Galaxy users are having to DL.

Even INSIDE today (although only 1.2gig) also released a full dl "patch".

Come one, come all, vote & let's hope things get fixed asap!

*tinfoil hat*

Is this an attempt to push us all to use galaxy?

*eats tinfoil hat*
Mmmm, electric'y flavour.
So, the solution seems to be:
Only acquire games here that are unlikely to receive frequent updates.
Downloading a ginormous file for every minor update is not fun at all!!
This is a bad strategy of them, more people will rather spent their hard-earned money in Steam and other business rivals.

Yep & that's the way it's been for me since all of this (& few other things) have gotten worse.
Despite me preferring drm free & not wanting to use steam more than I have to, I've stopped buying from here, even though there's been games in the sales I would've wanted, but because they're still new, I wasn't going to go through all of that again.
So gog are losing out on some money, steam aren't getting it either though, as I refuse to give them anything & I buy through legit keysellers.
There's taking the piss & then there's Titan Quest taking the piss!
Got in today, randomly checking is Grim Dawn' new patch is out & I notice a patch flagged......

Titan Quest "patch", aka another full re-DL!

Cheeses fookin' christ! Patches ffs, is it really that difficult!?

Amazing download speed here: ~500 KB/sec.

I don't know, I am not a coder. Try it yourself, and let us know.

Sure thing, send us all a link to the source code. Heads up though, it's years since I've done any programming.

Oh wait, that was sarcasm or trolling?

This has fuck all to do with "being a coder", it has the hassle of this site forcing full downloads instead of patches which is becoming far too common.

I'd forgotten all about that film. Seems like old age does have its advantages hehe.

Depends on how the assets are packed. No idea how TQ's assets are (since I've still not installed it), but it could be that modifying a single image (not even code) means repackaging the full images pack, thus resulting in a single 2GB file being changed. And not much you can do post-release, other than rewriting the game to use a different engine/packing method.
Yes, there is such a thing as delta patching, but I'm not sure if you can do a 1.x to 1.3 or you can only do a 1.2 to 1.3 patch.

<stage whisper, from off in the dark corner>

"C'mon, get Galaxy! Then you won't need to deal with those full downloads. It's optional, except that they got rid of the X so you can't close it easily anymore. But you know what you need to do. Just give in and join the crowd."

One of us, one of us! Heeheehee.
Le sigh.

Latest patch of The Long Dark released & after guessing if it had been updated here (what with no feckin' notifications & no release dates next to patches & the "guess what patch this really is, because we use our own pointless naming system instead of the obvious devs/games patch name") I figured out which was which.

I DL'd it & got the error in the image below, so DL'd the previous patch & it stated that it was already installed.

I swear, the effort of getting games patched on this site, from guessing which was released on what date to them not working at all is a joke at times.

One day, in the distant future, I hope gog sorts their crap out...

/starts whole game DL again.

Aaaaaaaaaand turns out that wasn't even the latest patch.
Still waiting for gog to provide that...

EDIT Patch has arrived for The Long Dark.
Full DL again...

The list of games not getting patches extends...

Victor Vran just informed of a patch, but there's no patch.

It's another 4+gb download :/
SOMA "patched", without actual patches of course....

That's another 10.6+gb of full download.

They can't even get patch notes/numbers/dates right..?

Side note, Grim Dawn got patched recently, but thanks to the fucked up notifications (or lack thereof) I missed the patch. The game has since been patched again, but gog have removed the previous patch, meaning if I DL'd the current patch, it wouldn't work because I'd be one patch behind.

So....that's another full DL for Grim Dawn.
