Basically it is as the title says....China has clamped down on SP after an episode mocked how hollywood censored media for sale/consumption in Chinese markets. While I have yet to see the episode in question I am guessing it's overreaction on the part of those making such decisions, as always. I also feel bad for those goggers/etc in China who cannot watch SP legally anymore due to some people getting their tighty-whites in a bunch over one episode.

So what do you guys think? Was this a bit of an overreaction on the part of those making such decisions or no? My mind is made up but may change once I see the episode and learn some more about what happened....but until then, your thoughts are welcome as always.

Reminded me of this user who's been broadcasting foreign language episodes of the show through Twitch for at least a week now (highlighting that Twitch will drop the hammer on women if they so much as dare to wear revealing clothing, but apparently if you broadcast content that isn't yours to rebroadcast, then you're... golden?).

Is that how it is now? Did they change how they moderate recently? I ask as I thought it was the reverse(woman getting a free pass and other stuff getting the hammer more readily).

Honestly, I think it varies with a wide inconsistency. One person streaming was a woman whose entire hook was "I'm high" and she was dressed in pajamas, essentially. Apparently she pulled in enough viewers to show up in the recommendations to people - no ban, to my immediate knowledge.

I tend to watch people broadcast old FPS titles and I thought that the user broadcasting the South Park stuff was actually broadcasting the N64 title - or the PC/PS port of it (nevermind the fact that they've got it tagged as "Pinball", again probably to skirt around Twitch's rules) and was surprised to find that it's episodes of the show in a language other than English.

South Park isn't South Park unless it's offending someone somewhere. It's like the old saying goes: "it's not funny until someone gets hurt". Or maybe I got that saying ass about, can't remember.
I have seen the episode. It´s not only because of the censoring of movies. They also show how people are treated in Chinese prisons.

The woman who got banned was a streamer dressed in Chun Li's outfit because she likes the character and it was some kind of an event where she was celebrating the SF character. The revealing part? She had those authentic Chun Li pants that show parts of the bare leg. :D So it wasn't actually revealing at all really. While other people who wear more revealing clothes don't get banned. I'm not sure if she got unbanned or nto as I don't watch Twitch and only read about it on FB.
It should be banned, however it should be because it hasn’t been funny for several seasons now. I saw the first episode of the new series, Randy running a weed farm, I didn’t even smirk once.

After 1 million episodes it's starting to get played. lol
South Park and Comedy Central never depend on Chinese viewers for their revenue, so of course they can freely do this.

Eh, every episode isn't going to be a winner, and it isn't for everyone.....I agree it is getting a bit stale, though, but I also like the commentary it provides on IRL issues from time to time.

True....unlike companies like Disney and such, who get a good chunk of cash from asian markets.

GameRager: ...snip
Yes, always going to be an episode off, however the whole series about gentrification was naff, not funny at all. It’s just lost all edge. It’s more a diatribe on what’s a hot topic in the US right now rather than an outrageous cartoon. Shame as it’s one of the few cartoons I liked, family guy, American dad et. al. Just just don’t have it. Whatever happens to ren and stimpy?

Tbh I like some episodes more for the commentary/use of certain characters and plots than just the humor, but yeah the humor has been off more as of late.

Oh well, at least we have prime seasons/episodes to look back on.

As for ren and stimpy: Some of it's content might not go down too well in today's PC/outrage ready climate, sadly. It was a good show, though, but if they brought it back they'd likely have to water it down so as to not offend someone. :\

It´s episode 2 of the 23rd season, the name is "Band in China".
Ahh, the good old streisand effect in action again.
