I mean, they have to realize that no one will click on the links in their threads, or that anyone will legitimately want to buy their shady supplies? It doesn't seem to make sense. Any ideas?
I presume they hope the back links will up their rank on Google or something. Or that they only need a few people to fall for it and click the links for it to be worth while and this method is just successful enough to be worth bothering with...
There are no links in the current crop of spam posts; the OP text is just gibberish. The "payload" seems to be the phone number in the topic titles.

I'm thinking it's this. Same as the phishing scams you get in your email.
Ask rtcvb, he's the expert on the subject.
And we aren't talking about a lot of work being done by the scammers here. They make one email or one post and the program does the rest. It takes them all of a five minutes.

NO! They don't work at all!

At least, that's what a friend told me.

The penis enlargement ones are, I have the proof.
A Shady Link
On a quiet afternoon some time ago, i was checking out the community wishlist and i reached the bottom of one
(yeah it was that quiet) and it was littered with all sorts of spam links.
It was almost litterally the underworld of GOG, reported them of course.
Don't know if it is still a mess downthere since this a while back.
