To my dismay, I've noticed that GOG Downloader simply no longer functions. As game downloads are split into segments, this means downloading a game is a tedious chore requiring waiting for each segment to download one after another.

What gives? Why break something that worked perfectly fine?

The GOG Downloader links are semi-hidden under the 'more' menu when you select a game.

Like Rio just said, not very intuitive at all. But hey, thanks for the reply. I think you just saved me from a lot of grief tomorrow afternoon.

Luckily the Downloader still works - otherwise one couldn't download the installer files (since Galaxy cannot do that).

Of course Galaxy can do that.

Go to the Game Page in Galaxy, click on "More", select "Download Extras". Installer files and patches are at the very top.
