As i've already mentioned: Civ5 is not exactly stellar without the expansions. But with those it's enjoyable. My favorite is still Civ3. Played them all, but if you have the rest of the Civ games or at least from Civ3, i suggest to start with the first Civ or third one and go from there. That way you can familarize with the mechanics and compare them and choose the one you like most.

My strongest memory of that game was my inept mispronunciation of "cunning stunt bonus" as "stunning cunt bonus". Even now I'm mixing the two as I write :/

That is the intent of it though. It's from an old joke that goes
"What is the difference between a classy brothel and an acrobatic exhibition?"
"In one of those, you see a lot of cunning stunts."

Chandoraa: By the way, am I "missing out" on something if I play with the expansions? For example, the intro video is different for vanilla and for each of the two expansions, and I've found no way to watch the "older" ones in-game. Which is fine, because I can just go to Youtube for those. Also, the interface for BNW is slightly different from vanilla. Is there something else that has been "overruled" by the expansions? Some music tracks, perhaps? Something else? Being a completionist, I'd like to check those out.
Just bumping my own thread and quoting my own post because I am a badass, but also in case someone has anything to say on the matter. In other news, here's looking forward to the next Insomnia Sale XD.

Well, the social policies have changed and some other things. There are more leaders in the game.
