Edit: (I usually never do this, but...)

I guess, this is why we can't have nice things... smh

To make it clear: the simple fact, that the male figure in the description of the CE was labelled as "the main character", made me ask myself, if there had perhaps been any changes made to the character design system (meaning = we're restricted to one particular playable character (similar to Geralt in The Witcher)).

Not that there would be anything severely wrong with that.
I mean - if the story demands it...so be it.

I just wanted to know if there had been such changes made, of which I was - so far - unaware of.

I was asking out of sheer curiosity - and without judging.
Because I liked the idea of playing as female "V".

Because in my mind, there still was the female "V" taking over the role of the main character in the game ( = the main character shown in the 48 minute gameplay video of last year).

Well, and yes...to express a slight (!) disappointment, in case that change would have been made.

So, I then - foolishly (I really should have known better) - decided to ask in the general forum, if anyone here has perhaps some accurate knowledge about that topic.

Now - that's one mistake, I definitely won't repeat.

I noticed this in the past already: many people here don't even try to respond in a civil way, anymore.
They also obviously don't read comments anymore - or they simply read to the point, where they find something over which they can get angry.
Then they switch - blinded by rage - full speed ahead into all-out-attack mode.

sigh

I assume this is the same thing as with Mass Effect and Sheppard. the male Sheppard was the official face of the game, but other than that, you could custom the character to your liking.
This has been said a million times ! you create your own character or you can play as default, there will be options for different gamers so don't worry.

Why would they show the creator and a demo as female just to scrap it, that is exactly what conpiracy theorists believe who blame CDPR for all kinds of things.

BreOl72: Maybe because they also mentioned in the video "everything you see, is potentially subject to change"?
Paranoia, this has been confirmed so many times that there should be no doubt as of this point but if the "subject to change " line worry you then don't pre order and wait until release. They have to use that wording so gamers don't get pissed off because they have changed parts of the mission structure or appearance of characters they showed off but to apply it to character choice of Male/Female yup that is a bit of a reach.

BreOl72: I'm not reaching - I simply asked a question.
And I gave reasons why I asked that question.
You don't like that question? Fine.
Then ignore it.
I don't mind the question and answered because it seems like you are worried about something that won't happen but as i said if the subject to chance warning makes you think twice about getting the CE then don't because there's nothing anyone can say except CDPR themselves to change your mind about female V getting removed.

CDPR does have reassured people that both will be playable many times and after the 2018 demo too which is probably why V is used as the name as it has no gender related to it.

BreOl72: It's not the "subject to change"-warning that keeps me from buying the CE - it's the figure.
The figurine in CE is definetily male, and it probably wont change, because they would have ordered them by now, so people can get them asap.
You create your character, there's no change in there.

As for the cover. A reservable cover seems like a no brainer. I just assumed they were paying homage to the original pen and paper manual https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/50354/Cyberpunk-2020-The-Second-Edition-Version-201

BreOl72: Does anyone know, if it's still possible to customise your avatar in the game and play as a female "V"?

[...]

It's been stated over and over and over again that V will be fully customizable. Where did all the paranoia came from?

There will be default characters for both genders. The figure depicts default male V. What kind of mind gymnastic do you have to make to think that: "Oh no! They are forcing me to play a straight white male! Oh the horror!"

Probably just because marketers always seem to like giving games a "personal" angle by having a main character on the box art, same reason that Skyrim marketting focused heavily on the male Nord PC even though the same had character creation. That said, I don't think it's ever been proved that gamers neccessarily want a pic of some dude's mug on the cover.
