Here's a heads up to all you sleep-deprived GOGdolytes: if you guys have an Android device, check out Amazon App Store's current giveaway. You can grab "Sleep as Android" for free today as well as a bunch of other apps and games.

I used it for the first time last night and my first impressions are great. If you guys have any kind of sleep issues or simply have trouble waking up and/or often feel groggy and grumpy as hell in the morning, chances are this app has something that can help you.

There are plenty of cool features you can check out in this video but for me the most valuable one is the monitoring of your sleep phases and the smart alarm.
If the app detects you're in a light sleep stage 30 minutes before the alarm you've set (you can adjust this number), it will wake you up right then to avoid waking you up later in a deeper sleep stage which would certainly contribute to that dreadful grogginess. And then to prevent you from oversleeping you have to solve some simple maths problem or scan a QR code.

The fun part is you can record yourself at night too. Apparently I cried for help 2 times during my sleep in a terrified tone - in English - so I wonder what the hell I was dreaming about.
Can't wait to hear what I have to say in my next dreams. :D

I picked this up as well, as it also claims it's got a preset for a few different polyphasic sleep cycles, including the "Everyman" cycle, which is what works best for me (monophasic sleep just doesn't work for me, and every time I give up polyphasic sleep, it's only a matter of time before I return to it. It just got frustrating trying to keep up with when I should be getting brief bits of sleep, as I'm quite often manic and just forget sleep for a day or three at a time. I'm quite curious to see if this helps get me back onto a schedule of sorts that gets me sleeping more consistently. I only need about 3-4 hours a day, so long as I sleep consistently.

I haven't tried it yet, but figure I'll give it a go tonight.

I've over 400 days of recorded sleep on that application. I highly recommend SleepCloud Backup as well as you can upload your statistics to your Google Drive very conveniently and you get some nice statistics that you can access through a web client.

Hehe, that's nice. Myself I "only" need 12 hours a day but we are all different! :D (J/K. 8 hours is fine but no less than that, 10 is preferable).

Haha! That's quite amazing. I haven't really tried many features with this app, I mostly use it because I love statistics and keeping track of my life.

My wife is like that as well (8-12, with a leaning towards 10 or more.) So we're on *slightly* different sleep schedules. ;)

Give it a try. :) Maybe you'll be surprised.
Instead of waking me up at a specified time, can we get an app that wakes my boss up late or keeps my bosses car from starting. Then I can have the best of both worlds, wonderful blissful night life and sleeping in getting my full 8 hours sleep.

It's genetic unfortunately so you'll have to either become economically independent so you don't need to go to a job or wait until genetic engineering starts to kick off. Apparently Margarat Thatcher had it.

That would be all swell but experiment with the smart wake up feature. You can set it to wake you up let's say 7 AM at the latest but it can wake you up between 2 hours before or less in case it thinks you "should" wake up then instead. Once you get the hang of what your body wants, waking up in the right mood becomes easy and awesome. I've no tips regarding to get the 8 hours sleep but since you can track your overall sleep and average you could always compensate once you need it more and have time. Best thing is though to create a habit of not doing something that you want to keep doing before bed like gaming.

I started taking melatonin and it sure helped last night as I fell asleep at 1130 instead of my usual 2am. Now if I would remember to consistently take it 30-60 minutes prior to my bedtime. I guess I could schedule an alarm for that, but what fun is that.

Ha, I wish I had one. Just never been much of a sleeper, even when very young. I've tried getting more, but if I get more than 5 hours of sleep at one time, I usually wake up feeling exhausted and useless.

You should consider a polyphasic sleep cycle if you'd like to be able to get by on less sleep than you do with a single sleep cycle, though it doesn't work with every lifestyle, and doesn't seem to benefit everyone. I tried a few different approaches over the years, but what seems to work best for me is a daily core nap of about 3 hours, plus 2 or 3 15-30 minute naps. Obviously, this wouldn't work easily for someone with a 9-5 job, but it seems ideal for me. :)

Sleep as Android has a go to bed alarm.
Can it tell my 4 year old not to wake me up when I'm mid-dream?
