No idea why it isn't in the front page news? But it's on sale right now.

May be 33% off was not worth posting. :P
The developers stated that -33% is as far as they will go (and they do it just because Steam imposed them to discount it if they wanted to be published), as they value their products and do not want to follow the "bundle" philosophy and its consequent devaluation of the work behind game developing.
In any case, the sheer amount of content (already there and still to come) is well worth 10 bucks.

Edit: typos-typos-typos.

Who knows? You think sales would increase if it were actually mentioned though?

Not everyone puts games in a wishlist. I stopped doing it after GOG wiped out my old wishlist when the site was updated to the Grey look. Too much trouble going to every games page to add to wishlist, at least for me

Fair enough too. If they want to stay in business they need money to keep afloat. Just wish GOG would actually bother to promote the fact it's on sale

It's not first promo which was not posted in news as soon as discount was made.
May be it will be posted later today or may be with weekly staff picks
I'm still trying to figure out why I bought it the last time it was on sale. :P

Not your thing? Haven't played it yet? No time to play games because you're too busy buying them?

It's not bad; in fact it's pretty good, it's just not anything revolutionary. Pretty much just a platformer.

Well that's good news. Love many genres but I've always enjoyed a good platformer. From the VIC-20 to the C64 and right through the Amiga days. I love 'em. Two of my favorites would be Ruff'n'Tumble and Yo! Joe! (both on Amiga)

"Oh the good old days" :D

It's actually excellent. There's been a million of so called "retro" Indies, but unlike most of the others, the devs of Shovel Knight got it right. Everything, from the visual style, to the sound and gameplay design, has been meticulously crafted to resemble the classics of the genre, with no compromises. I remember reading some of their blog posts, about how they analyzed games like Megaman/Rockman, Super Mario Bros etc., and all the planning that went into each aspect of Shovel Knight. I guess you're right, when you say that it isn't really revolutionary, in the sense that it doesn't do anything new, per se. But it takes the best parts of various classics, blends them with a few elements from modern games, and merges it all into a near perfect mixture. ( Along with a generous amount of humor and charming character designs. ) For fans of the genre it's basically like discovering a classic and playing it for the first time, except that it's actually a new game. Come to think of it, in some ways it's similar to the appeal of Stardew Valley.

Which makes it really not interesting for guys like me with no particular love of those classics.

I'll need a much bigger discount to buy, and if that's not their philosophy, then I won't buy. I've got plenty of other stuff to play.

And, according to their pricing philosophy, they seem to be fine with that. When you think about it, isn't it better for the customers as well? I mean, what's the point in buying tons of games you have no real interest in, just because they are currently 90% off or whatever. I know I personally bought dozens of games here I still haven't played, and possibly never will, just because they were cheap at the time, and I suspect most other GOG ( or Steam ) users have the same "problem".

I suppose it has pros and cons, but I can certainly understand their point of view, and maybe it could have positive effects for everyone involved ( game makers, customers and the industry in general ), if more devs adapted this philosophy.

In any case, Shovel Knight is a quality piece of entertainment software, and I can recommend it to anyone who likes platformers/side-scrolling adventure games, or just anyone who likes good retro games. ( I actually thought that originally the game was a bit too short for its price tag, but with the included Plague Knight expansion you now get a much better deal. )

I can understand that.
But.. I still need more discount to buy it. :\
Maybe in the future..
