I hear bitcomposer is having legal issues according to a developer(?) response on the Steam forums. What happens if Book 2 doesn't get released as per some negative outcome of these legalities? Stupid me actually bought the game just now after warring with myself; however, I have not downloaded it yet and I don't plan to unless some explanation is brought forward.

edit: to clear the confused lot - this is not a protest thread, this is simply a show of concern (thread). There's a big difference between the two which some folks seem to thinks it's a protest regardless of explanation.

I've downloaded the game, played it for a bit, gotten over the concern: the end. :3

As I understand it, bitComposer has filed for insolvency, not liquidation, so at this time it's a cash flow problem that could be worked out. No reason for GOG not to sell it.

Ah right, I wasn't sure what they were doing exactly. Suppose I'll be safe then.

The reason I was worried was that I'd have an incomplete game indefinitely. So the topic question would pan out to be 'Should GOG be selling a forever incomplete title' so to speak.

I'd say that's a legitimate concern.

GOG's a pretty reasonable outfit, though. I would expect them to compensate you somehow if you failed to receive the product they advertised.
I hope those guys do alright... I haven't had the chance to play the game yet because of my current computer specs, but I preordered it because I loved Heretic Kingdoms.
I'm hesitating to buy the game for the same reason. How long is Book 1? And does it have a cliff-hanger ending? I am wondering if it will feel like a decent game even if Book 2 never comes out.
I didn't even realize that it was episodic. Thanks for the heads up.
I saw this thread just after purchasing the game. Since the promise of a future update that will include book two was a factor in my decision to buy it, I hope it actually comes out.
The game looks good so I hope the developer and publisher can sort out whatever the difficulties are.

I get the impression that Book 1 is a fully playable and enjoyable experience. I bought it at the sale price.

But if you're the type to be concerned about the game being "forever incomplete", consider waiting. From the devs:

"There is a partial conclusion, but it leaves fair amount of things open as it is still a single story..."

Thanks! :) I found the more recent threads earlier, but I didn't see that last message from the developer. I went ahead and bought the game. Hopefully Book 2 will come out as well, but I think I'm okay with this price even if it's just for the first part.

Meh, many great game series were or will be "forever incomplete". I figure as long as the game is fun and delivers enough value/content for its price, then I don't see why GOG shouldn't sell it.

Oh, I agree. As mentioned, I bought Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms. And I hold the heretical opinion that Dark Matter should return to GOG.

My motto: "Don't like it, don't buy it. But don't try to take away my ability to buy it."

What a great motto. Let me address it; I do like the game which is why I bought it, I was voicing concern over the current situation and if it led to selling an unfinished and falsely advertised product (unlikely but that was the concern), don't tell me I'm trying to take away your 'ability' to buy it (considering this isn't the only place to buy it you'd still have the ability regardless), I was simply asking the community 'should it be sold....'.

Anyway, that's if something was directed at me but I'm guessing not because I'm sure you would have read close.
Advent Rising.
Anachronox.

I'm fairly sure the list of games with utterly unfinished storyline just goes on.
Occurrences such as this tend to strengthen my choice for myself to never put money out for any type of unfinished games. That includes Early Access, Pre-purchase, and Episodic games to which all planned episodes are not fully released. The chance for disappointment or feeling shafted after is just too high for me, especially with the plethora of completely-finished games on the market that I can safely know the outcome of my purchase ahead of time. Look at cases like Godus where the developer intentionally over-promised features they had no hope to complete in time or on budget just because he felt he had to in order to get people to give him money. Far too much uncertainty with unfinished titles IMHO, at least for my personal tastes.

I do hope it works out for everyone interested in this game who may have spent money already though.
