Splinter Cell: Conviction fits. It plays like an action-spy movie. Peeps hated it, but only b/c it's so different from previous SC games, I think. It was my first SC game and got me into the series and books. I loved it.
If you like classic adventure games check out the Blackwell series.
Knytt and Knytt Stories spring to mind. They're just about that right length.

Doom
I recommend Gemini Rue, it can be completed in one slightly longer session (less than 7 hours) and unlike most other point & click adventures Gemini Rue doesn't have any obtuse puzzles that will get you stuck and ruin the mood. The atmosphere and story are very solid and it's one of the few games in this style that can be enjoyed even by people who don't like the genre and are generally put off by pixel graphics.
