Ever since Steam opened up its store to so much hentai it is like an avalanche of titles appeared. You can find the hidden gems of games because hentai covers everything.

Now I see that GOG has caught on and has decided to sink to a new low by selling adult games with sex, nudity, sexual content, etc.

I have to say I am disappointed that GOG has apparently decided to jump into the market of selling games that really can't be considered games.

I am not a prude, or a christian zealot or one of those looking to keep inappropriate content off gaming sites. I respect the rights of others to have access to games they want just as much as I want games for sale here. However how many of these titles will we now have to sort through to actual get to games, actual games that aren't dependent on the lowest level of gaming, nudity and sex.

The problem is if you filter games like that out, other games, good games where the point of the nudity isn't the central theme would be blocked. Games in the Witcher Series come to mind. There is nudity, some sexual content but it is done in a way that it isn't the central theme or biggest part of the game. If adults need these titles, why can't they be put on an alternate gog or steam site rather than filling the virtual gaming shelves with quality games, classics and favorite games with games whose only purpose is to provide experiences that someone didn't care to go to a porn site to see the real thing. Yes I am sure these games are like any game, you either like 'em or you don't. Just why now GOG is joining in the sex wars to help these products flourish like weeds in grass.

I don't what to say other than I was really disappointed tonight when I visited the store and saw the new adult titles or sorry cartoonish or as close to looking like real people but with outrageous proportions to the women. I know others will feel strongly in the other direction saying games are meant as an escape from reality and adult themed sex and nudity games are just as much gaming as playing doom, quake, civilization and other great titles that are part of gaming. If you are going to be heading in that direction, we really need a button to put "dislike or ignore" like steam so we can quickly filter these titles out of all the games you sell.

I know this is a first amendment issue, however it shows the worst of gaming and just helps to add fuel to all those who think games make people into mass murderers or serial killers or whatever people have used to try and regulate the gaming industry. All I can say I was so disappointed to see GOG join Steam in the Smut gaming niche. There are great wargames, games of strategy and simulators yet we don't see them here. So why this niche market is now finding a new place to flourish I don't understand.

I've been extremely disappointed with this, as well.
This is supposed to be a gaming site, not a tacky porn club for boys.

And as a woman, I find it offensive that these kind of titles only parade half-naked women, with their privates bulging out, like objects.

And yes, I know the boys who think it's okay to degrade women like this, will downvote me.

Sabertooth007: So why this niche market is now finding a new place to flourish I don't understand.
Because, as you just mentioned in the title of this thread, it sells. Companies will try to make money, no matter the means - they will encourage and exploit weaknesses and addictions. Let me ask you something: how many times have you seen a gambling den in a rich, well-developed area? Or how many sex workers are there in high-income neighbourhoods?
GOG will put up for sale whatever they think it's profitable. I've a choice to do business with them or pass. I'll go for the latter. Is it disappointing? Yes. Will this change anytime soon? Remains to be seen, since the numbers do the talking. If these type of games yield a profit, then there will probably be more of them.

In contrast, I was disappointed when GOG used to ban AO games solely for Puritan-based reasons.

It's a great thing that they finally stopped doing that, at least apparently (I say apparently because I'm not sure if they would still ban some games for Puritan-based reasons, maybe they would?).

And indeed GOG should be "just like Steam" in terms of not banning games for Puritan-based reasons.

What did it accomplish for the years while they did do that? All that it accomplished is that 100% of the distribution fee money from those games went to Steam and to other AO game providers, and 0% of it went to GOG.

Now, instead, GOG gets some of that distribution fee money. That's better for GOG than was the prior, 0% situation.

That's how the nature built us men. We are visual animals, and are aroused by sexual objects like bulging titties and such.

It is very unfortunate that getting aroused by the sight of e.g. bulging titties objectionalizes (is that a real word? Well it should be!) women, but on the other hand, if we didn't, it might be we wouldn't get aroused at all and have no sex at all, but just play (non-sexual) video games all the time. That would be the end of humankind, no more babies.

Also, let's definitely not forget that women objectionalize men too. For instance, women tend to admire and fall in love with tall men. That is a physical attraction. similar as men falling in love with bulging titties.

Also, I used to know a woman who many times mentioned how important the right smell of the man is to him (and she meant the real odor of your body, not what kind of perspirant you use). She e.g. mentioned that I smell "wrong" to her and hence she wouldn't get attracted to me, and I guess that was fine because I didn't find her particularly attractive either. However, I guess I felt like an object there. An object with the wrong odor.

No, it's not. In fact, the whole idea of "objectification" is BS. If a woman looks attractive to men that don't degrade her in any way.

Could always ask for the kind of titles that only parade half-naked men, with their privates bulging out, like objects. There are enough of those around after all.
If you don't like the adult games, don't buy them. GoG employees aren't standing behind you with weapons forcing you to spend money on them. They're clearly released here because people are buying them. I'm not going to get into an argument about whether they objectify women, but will second Lucomo's point that there are plenty of games that objectify men out there as well (and anything else that you can think of - this is the Internet after all)

Provided the content doesn't contravene laws in the country of sale (this is the only argument for region locks that works - to stop countries with super-restrictive laws preventing sale of legal items elsewhere in the world) then I don't really have an issue with it being on offer. That being said, I'm not a fan of visual novels (they're barely interactive), but I have no problem with other people buying and enjoying them.

This is an issue with porn itself. Most consumers of pornos are males, therefore the authors of pornos don't care about the female perspective.

But you also have to keep in mind that this is just the sexual fantasy of the consumers. Simillar to erotic novels, who are mostly from a female perspective. Most men don't objectify women.

Only thing you can blame on GOG is the lazy age verification system.

While I don't really agree with what the OP has said, I do agree that filters for such games should be improved. In fact they should all have a genre entry called porn or similar ... and don't use that for games that only have some of that in them.

On top of that, I kind of find it ironic that they are called Adult Only games, when really most mature adults don't bother with such games usually. In my experience it is older teens and young adults that mostly care for such things, so there is a juvenile element.

And I am not condemning them because of that, or condemning them at all, just stating the truth as I see it. No doubt if I was much younger, I would maybe be keen on them as well, so I don't consider GOG should ban them from sale ... just make it harder for folk who don't want to know about them or see them, from doing so ... especially young kids.

Personally I find if they make them too obvious, it just diminishes the place. No way shape or form are they high quality gaming in my experience, just pure titillation, that generally appeals to people of a certain age and maybe persuasion.

And last but not least, we don't want GOG to start emulating Steam or IndieGala etc.

As much as it hurts to admit, GOG has become a dumpster fire. I assume that porn is just a way to keep their heads above water by making a quick buck. It is just another thing that pushes me away from this store. On top of that is the inferior service and abandoned/unfinished Galaxy. I am not a DMR free zealot, so this year I'll just go to the competition, where the deal is better more often than not. GOG, either you make some decent improvements or it's GG from me.
