some background info (didn't read it)

the media company vivendi is trying to take over ubisoft. its a hostile takeover and there's a twitter hashtag to that #saveubisoft

does someone know what this means for me as a customer? unfinished low quality titles with an aaa brand like far cry, more drm, higher prices?
What really baffles me is that Vivendi let go of the money-making machine that is Blizzard because the latter wasn't doing it for them for whatever mysterious reason - I mean, WTF? - and then they want to take over something as big as Ubisoft. Makes no sense.

This quote baffles me though:
Creativity, agility, and risk-taking is intrinsic to our industry ... When you're in an organisation that's less risk-taking, you don't do that. And then when you don't take risks, you don't get rewards.
I wouldn't really ascribe much of any of these qualities to Ubisoft, these days.

it could mean anything for us customers.

Happened often enough a bigger company just bought an independent studio, too broaden their market, and just a tad later they decide to close it down. Happened often enough.

Most of the times it is bad news for us customers.

Most likely removal of any UBI Titles from gog without a relisting.
Vivendi released excessively the series that sell best, others end up in limbo and of course vivendi will emerge no new license or "innovative game." In short vivendi will destroy Ubisoft "Ubisoft fails if has resisted the takeover."

I dunno if anyone knows what it would mean really, but I for one laugh. Ubisoft used to be one of my favourite game publishers until they fucked me over with about a dozen or so games (all bought at once or I wouldn't have kept buying from them). Boycotted them ever since 2007 after that, however I make exceptions for their games DRM-free here on GOG.

Dunno if it would be good for Ubisoft, good for gamers, good for the industry, good for GOG, or good for anyone if Vivendi did a hostile takeover, but a part of me would rejoice inside knowing that Ubisoft got fucked over from someone bigger than them. :)

In the end it could mean this, or that they go with a completely different concept.

Like what happened with the settlers Blue byte and Ubisoft (this is only an example ;) )
Pfft. Considering how many other companies they've ruined, I have zero sympathy for if Ubisoft has to turn around and face the same situation. Besides, it's not like they take too many risks already, and OH NO! Vivendi might make them focus on making a game that isn't completely fuckin' broken at launch!
high rated
... no. No, I don't think I want to help #SaveUbisoft. Is there a #KillUbisoft hashtag I can support instead?
