TStael: FemShep is such an acclaimed performance that good for yer! Should I get around to Fallout, ME would be next on the list. But no promise, lol. Perso, I am fairly under-exposed to Jennifer Hale meanwhile - in view of my BW fanship at least - Mazzy in BG2, and Krem in DA Inquisition.

Leroux: I didn't even know Jennifer Hale voiced Mazzy

And in ME1, you can dance in a club, but it will look pretty awkward, and I loved that. Sadly they changed that in the sequels and chances are they only forgot to give the character a "female" dancing animation in ME1, but I actually liked the notion that not all women are super sexy dancers "by birth", regardless of their character. The awkward male animation fit the character of my FemShep much better. :D
I did not either realize about Mazzy until there was this positive buzz about Krem in DA Inquisition. But there u go!

Based on your post, I must assume you are a feller (ie boy) gamer. Do you think girl (or gay) gamers saw MaleShep dance animations as "super sexy" because the boys just must be so "by birth"?

Your stated position remind of a First of May student party back when I was a university student in Finland.

My poorly boyfriend (by hindsight, I was not very mature then) suggested we should move more to the corner because our mutual friend (a he, in case u think men naturally dance unsexy, and this explains it) was getting ridiculed for being out of step.

I know I felt shock that anyone would be such a dick when 1st of May parties are supposedly ... chill n happy.

And that this given boyfriend saw it (I did not, but maybe I am naïve), but rather thought we should move, as opposed to rally our group to tell those unkind creatures to go and show off their better moves elsewhere.

Let it be said the boyfriend is an ex, and the "un-sexy" dancer is still a dear friend.

I just really wish you would see FemShep as a herald cum pal with my out-of-tune dancer friend, as opposed to "potentially failed sexy dancer..."

Pray think back to your dancing moments, maybe... reassess - and pray tell! :-)

Random_Coffee: Yes, I'd say it's my favorite RPG-voice, and yes, you guessed the correct reference, that is the Of Mice and Men one ;) I have not had Minsc very much in my party, as I usually play a evil party, but I did have him for a while in one of my BG2-playthroughs, he has a great voice as well. I should try a good playthrough and get the full experience :)

Overall, Baldur's Gate has so many great voices. Some great ones that come to mind right now is Montaron and Xzar, Edwin, Irenicus, and at some point in Baldur's Gate 2, Bhaal is voiced by Michael Dorn.
Oh good on u, because u could get to keep Edwin, then!

I did know there was a certain "alignment" conflict by reason - but the first time that the ultimate mage (=Edwin) in the game walked away just before entering the Suldanessellar - I just had to reload, and hope for the best!¨

All in all, I admire Baldur's Gate series because it is so friendly to both "evil" and "good" play through. I cannot really do the evil one, perso - but wish the best possible immersion for those whom think different.

I found the guy who did the voice acting for Gorion in Baldur's Gate, most impressive.

I just did some research and found out, his name is Jim Cummings.

I think you misunderstood my "stated position". I put those words in quote marks for a reason - because they are not what I think at all, but how conventional thinking as displayed in videogames often seems to me. Usually, if a game features a heroine, she has to be perfect in all regards, she has to have the perfect body and she can't be a mediocre dancer, for example (this is what I observe, not what I think; just to avoid further misunderstandings). That's why I thought Mass Effect 1 was refreshing in this regard, by allowing FemShep to dance in an awkward way. (And if you must know, I'm an awkward dancer myself, which is another reason why I liked that. :D ) But maybe it isn't about gender after all; I didn't play the game as MaleShep, so it's possible that he too evolves from mediocre dancer in Mass Effect 1 to super sexy dancer in Mass Effect 3, and in this case I would prefer the ME1 version as well.

I actually wanted to pop back to nuance my reply to you a bit because with second thought, I had a feeling it might appear purely critical of your opinion, when in fact I appreciate it.

I am at time guilty of hammering my views with a large blunt implement, but not only, I hope! Plus I am certainly oversensitive / defensive to any assumed stereotypes, I have to confess, as the current age of "isms" to single out others negatively is saddening to me.

But... your measured response was the perfect comeback, and had me smiling too, most approvingly.

Knowing that Hale is such a fan favourite, and it seems, her FemShep is considered one of the greatest performances ever, I was very interested to hear your view on her role as this would be the trigger to try out Mass Effect in my case. Or... maybe... if by ME3 MaleShep is a sexy dancing maniac - do tell, lol!

Since I do not take Mazzy in my party - Sir Ano eats one tank spot being the only romeanceable male in BG2 - I was quite pleased she was casted as Krem in Inquisition to get an idea of her quality.

However, I specifically wanted to add that I read in an article once that the very reason why she was happy to do FemShep was the fact that not a single line of dialogue was altered to accommodate male or female Sheppard. So, vis-à-vis the animation, you are attuned to her take on the character pretty spot on, I think!

And I am sure your dancing is fine! It is the joie de vivre that I find nicest thing to watch in others, rather than artful posing, in any case - and better be, I doubt I am poetry in motion myself...

TStael: Frank Welker, the voice actor, right? Thou some lines of the above banter reminded me disturbingly much of Jim Cummings, aka Minsc.

Been bit in and out of the thread, hope it is no bother.

It is just nice to spot you have the same dilemma as me, except reversed, as I feel too dastardly and mean to do an evil play through myself!

What I like and respect meanwhile in Baldur's Gate is that they wrote all characters with care, and the arguably most potentially valuable NPC of the entire series (IMO), Edwin, is evil aligned. By this I mean that both good and evil are treated equitably by the game in terms of immersion experience, and also you generally have to stick with it.

SMALL SPOILER

And I also really enjoy Edwin, as his megalomania and abrasiveness are quite funny to me, and the voice is superb! But alas, evil he is...

One of the jaw-dropping lessons of how consistent BG is - to point of pretty harsh - was one early play-through were I had Edwin in the party pretty much throughout, my rep of course improving - and JUST before entering Suldenesselar to face final battles he drops me because I am so disgustingly righteous! Pretty disastrous for winning that campaign...

Sorry, was / am a Sand fancier - so bit of a conflict with Qara there! As would have been put to perfect effect in the game...

With DA2 (Dragon Age 2), I would elevate NWN2 as the game that has one of the best overall voice casting, this far.

Leliana (Corinne Kempa) is probably one of the best written female characters by BW - but I just feel a bit too sad about her character's evolution, as the DA game series progresses, thou the voice acting delivers the darkness and damage to perfection.

David Gaider said that Corypheus was "dark mirror" to Leliana - originally idealistic faith gone sour (if I remember correctly).

Tells to which extent Leliana is considered in Dragon Age game world.

Thou...she was quite a bit short-changed compared to Cullen, IMO - in terms of in-game evolution.... But always sublimely voice acted - she is, Leliana!
Ron Perlman, the narrator for the intros of all the Fallouts and the voice of Butch Harris in Fallout 1. And more impressive for the intro of Fallout 2, my favorite and one of the most memorable intros of any game.
