tomyam80: Erm, thks 4 updating the game but does this means i can no longer play it on Win 10?
At least according to the gamepage and the post above that seems to be the case.

_ChaosFox_: So you've broken Win10 compatibility then, since the DVD version doesn't work with Win10 while the CD version does. Good thing I kept my installer from a few days ago.
Yeah, I am actually interested to get both versions, so since I have the offline CD version already (downloaded with gogrepo), i guess I'll keep it and download also the DVD version. I'd prefer of course that GOG kept both versions in people's accounts.
I'm going to stick with the old installer. Would be great if you guys could make it available as an extra...

Just done a side install of the new update, using W10 Pro x64 edition.

Though both are slow getting going, once they actually start they both work..
Game runs fine, and sound seems a little louder, and/or bassier on the new version, to me..

Classic Installer (Old CD Release)
5 CD-ROMs v1.02
setup_riven_2.0.0.14.exe
Cyan Productions, and RedOrb Entertainment (AKA Brøderbund Software) Logo's at startup.

File name difference I spotted
BB_MC32.qt

Classic Installer (New DVD Release)
DVD-ROM v1.2
setup_riven_-_the_sequel_to_myst_gog-14_(15061).exe
setup_riven_-_the_sequel_to_myst_gog-14_(15061)-1.bin
Cyan Productions, and Ubisoft Logo's at startup

File name difference I spotted
mohawk.ppc
MC32.qtc

Both offer intalls of QT Light, required for sound, I assume, but not sure about that.
The one significant difference I spotted was the addition of this file in DVD version
\Riven - The Sequel to Myst\Divers\QuickTime.qts

That maybe what the DVD version needed to run on W10, with the version of QT Lite provided.

Whatever the case, new DVD release runs just fine on my W10.

Good to see this was finally addressed.

Sorry, can't resist - I assume that this is a different person from the one that was responsible for this game back when the discrepancy between the offline installer and the Galaxy installation occurred. Otherwise these must have been the longest few weeks™ in history of mankind.

_ChaosFox_: [...] Also, how can your installer update workflow ensure that other games don't slip through the cracks?
I don't think that there's a way with that many things and steps being handled manually.

By stating
Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8)

GOG limits the Guarateed support, to those systems. It doesn't mean it won't work on W10, Linux, or Mac.
It just means GOG don't provide any support, if you have problems.

In this case.
Could be they're waiting to see if any issues appear, before they say it works, and guarantee the support, or a simple mistake, the one updating offline, to match Galaxy, may not have considered the store page wasn't alreadt corrected when Galaxy got the DVD version.

Although I will never use Galaxy, and detest the very idea of a store bound client, I do have it installed.
Just for checking the differences to the website, and the games store page is exactly the same page for both.
Mistake is the most likely reason, in my opinion.

You lost me there.
Unamed Person made the original mistake 3 years ago.
Unamed Person still works for GOG now, when the mistake, was brought to light.
Unamed Person is currently out of the office for a few weeks because of personal reasons.
Unamed Person isn't available to speed up the process, due to knowing what, and how they did this.
That increased the time it took to figure things out and correct it.

Galaxy also got a new update 4 days ago.
So it looks like they repacked it for both, instead of just correcting the offline installers.
Which might have been the case if Unamed Person was available.

Well, watever the case, still glad 2 know it can still run on Win10. Hopefully no issues turn up though.

In the worst case, ScummVM will run on anything and the Riven support in ScummVM has reached the point where they're enabling it in their daily builds and asking people to test, so it'll probably be well-supported in the next ScummVM release. (Looking back on the news posts, they average one new release each year.)
Does anyone have the old installer of Riven available? I didn't keep my downloads, and apparently the old version is more compatible with ScummVM than the new one. Wish I kept mine :(

I do, but I don't think it's legal for me to send you a copy, even if we've both paid for it. (Copyright law is very particular about how you came into possession of something.)

(In order to stay on the right side of the letter of copyright law so I can give "people who don't buy our DRMed crap must be pirates" publishers the finger, I download and make DVD+R backups of every release pushed for every game in my GOG library on archival-quality media.)

Best contact GOG Support and ask for a download link, they're usually nice about these things.

Having said that, and as others suggested earlier, they could include the CD version in the extras like they often do with older/alternative versions of games.
Phuh, I have an older backup, no if I ever get around to sorting my backups...
Hello, sorry to up this post so lately, but I would ask for having the 5-CDs version as an extra too !

I explain : I just have a new computer and re-install Riven with the DVD version. It works, no problem. But the only translation patch I know (A french one) is based on the 5 CDs version and don't work with the DVD version.

So, it would be a nice extra if we can have the both versions !
I'm in desperate need on the old DVD installer. 15061, if I recall?

There's easter eggs and such that you simply CANNOT access in the new ScummVM version, and I vastly prefer the old menu system.
