WinterSnowfall: That's actually a good point. Doesn't Galaxy still include third party stores... ? Against its own best interest... and yet we can't do the very thing included in the official store client. Interesting, to say the least...

I wonder if the people who were present in that COC review meeting considered this harsh reality.

Oh, that would be great! But GOG was never fond of consistency in their rules.

Edit 2: Given that many updates on GOG come with no changelog at all (that are often posted on the Steam forum), is linking to these advertising? Example - Dusk, the latest changelog on GOG is Nov 2019, yet there have been 5x newer ones since on Steam's Update Page.
And if GOG are going to start banning people for posting "advertising" links to Steam's changelogs then are they at least going to start requiring developers to post same changelogs to GOG so that GOG users aren't actively driven to competitors platforms to find them in the first place?...

Part of me understands why they did it BUT at the same time, I don't believe this was the right call. I think it could have been handled better. We really should be allowed to at least talk about other games distributors as long as we're not constantly praising them or promoting them. After all, GOG can improve by taking notes on other distributors: both the things they should and shouldn't do in the future.

So yes, I think this was handled poorly and I think it needs to be addressed more clearly with a little bit of leeway for things such as the thread that listed DRM-free distributors. I didn't really see that thread as advertising, just the community promoting other distributors that promote the DRM-free mission (or, in some cases, distributors that have a lighter stance on DRM).

More scummy, out of touch moves, from gog to distance itself from the older community spirit of the site; what a shocker!

I guess gog felt threatened and rather than up it's game, decided to squash any potential competition. Consume here or you will be punished.... Oh and get GoG Galaxy... why haven't you got it yet? All the kool kids are using it; remember the monks? They were sacrificed to create it!....

Gog's moderators are just becoming forum trolls themselves at this point.

But that was exactly what happened all the time.
We have at least two forum users who are directly (maybe even financially?) associated with a Competitor of GOG, who were constantly praising their alternative to GOG.

Not to mention all the others who love to shit on GOG and use every occasion to tell everyone who wants to hear it (and even more, who don't want to hear it) how they would only use store X and store Y anymore to buy games, and that they only use GOG for its forum.

GOG showed a high level of leniency for a very long time.
And of course: the users who abused that leniency for the longest time, are now the ones complaining the loudest.

Yes, I know whom you're referring to and I agree that such a stance shouldn't be permitted on GOG's forums. I mean, it's not right to come on here and trash GOG all the time while simping for any and all competition. However, simply talking about other sites shouldn't be a banned topic because there is a lot that GOG can glean from healthy discussions about other services. Learning what people like and dislike about your competition is one of the best ways to properly compete.

No idea who are you are referring to, but just in case you are hinting at the thread "Epic Store games you can play without the Epic Launcher" having some underlying financial connections, that thread was setup to keep track of the high quality freebies they were giving out. Zero money has ever been earned and no affiliate links or advertising ever used. I don't even link to competitors game pages directly the same way the Steam equivalent thread does (which amusingly remains unlocked...) And there's nothing there that can't be found on PCGW.

In fact, the only people I know earning money from advertising Epic Store Games on GOG are of course GOG...

More so when 99% of games in that thread GOG didn't sell anyway. So you couldn't get them here even if you wanted to.

I don't just mean with the deals threads, though. I'm also referring to threads that critique/praise certain things between GOG and other sites. There's a difference between being a simp for a competitor (as some on this forum can be) and just realizing that GOG has a lot of things they can take and learn from other sites.

It reflects your comments, unless you're going to claim that they have no bearing on your person, in which case we'll stop pretending that you're here to discuss anything.

They show that you have no awareness of the inherent subjectivity of what you're alleging, which indicates that you view those who do not reflect your perspective as being "wrong". That's a strong bias in favor of conformity, and against those who attempt -- wrongly or rightly -- to hold power accountable.

If that isn't what you're trying to convey I suggest that you choose your words more carefully.
