Ubisoft has announced that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will require a constant internet connection in order to be played. However, the game will offer both co-op and solo modes, meaning that players can experience this title as a single-player game.

As Ubisoft stated:

“Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an online, multiplayer game with a rich co-op and seamless experience. As such, the game will only be playable with an internet connection in order to have seamless navigation, receive dynamic updates, and play with friends (which is certainly better when you’re playing as a Space Pirate!). The choice to play co-op, however, remains yours to make, so playing BGE2 solo is absolutely possible if you’re into that lone Space Pirate kinda thing.”

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the spiritual successor to the cult classic, and a prequel that will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world. In it, players will fight alongside other characters in a new solar system, as they struggle for freedom and the right to determine their own fate among the stars. Players will be able to game either by themselves or with friends in a vast and seamless online playground.

Ubisoft plans to release a playable beta at the end of 2019 so it will take a while until gamers can get their hands on it. Earlier this month, the French company showcased 26 minutes of gameplay footage from its pre-alpha build and we’ve embedded that video below in case you missed it.

Though the release of Beyond Good & Evil is still farther away than we'd like, that hasn't stopped Ubisoft from sharing more details about the highly anticipated sequel to a beloved classic. For those excited to play the long-awaited next game, there is something you should know: It's all online.

While this isn't big news, especially in this day and age where it seems like every other game announced requires an Internet connection, it something we didn't previously know for sure despite already knowing about the multiplayer aspects. With a promise of a solid single-player experience, many were hoping being online was a requirement for the entire game, though the studio just revealed otherwise.

According to a recent post over on the official game's website, “Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an online, multiplayer game with a rich co-op and seamless experience. As such, the game will only be playable with an internet connection in order to have seamless navigation, receive dynamic updates, and play with friends (which is certainly better when you’re playing as a Space Pirate!). The choice to play co-op, however, remains yours to make, so playing BGE2 solo is absolutely possible if you’re into that lone Space Pirate kinda thing."

The bright side is that from what we've seen so far, the Internet connection is a small price to pay. Though this game is taking a very different direction than its predecessor, it's a look into a world that led to Jade being who we met in the first game. If you're like us and dig a good story, the devs promise a lot of depth within the title's lore:

"We want our game to have a very deep and detailed world. As a player, you can expect to be fully immersed in this world, and the more you'll explore it the more you'll understand how it works. Narration will be a constant, carried by this rich world and the creatures who populate it. Playing the game solo or with friends will expose you in the same way to this world and all its narrative elements."

We still don't have a release date at this time, thougha demo for sometime next year is planned.
Idiot move.
A deflating news. Ubisoft copying Bethesda's Fallout 76 playbook. What are the odds the next Assasin's Creed will be always online?
Well... anything else would had surprised me. Ubisoft does not care about games. They only care about live services:

AAA indutry.... i don't know whether to laugh or cry.

At this point Ubisoft is just keeping the name for trying to maximize profit on a totally unrelated game, there's nothing in common anymore to the original.

The first one was.
I'm not surprised. Ubisoft loves mandatory online connections. Consumer hostile.
Would be so much easier if Ubisoft would just stop making games I really, really want to play :\
Fear the same is going to be the case for Anno 1800 as well, if it hasn't been announced already
This isn't shocking tbh, Ubisoft has been shitty for years now.
From the title I assumed it had been cancelled, but this is worse.
"[...]receive dynamic updates..."

What does that even mean?

As long as there are people willing to pay for that, they won't learn.
Assassin's Creed 2? Is that you?

That mean that the game will be released half-baked and require constant patches for several months at least. Probably ther will be a lot of DLC content.

And that a pirated version will be available faster than light after the release.
Oh, and the pirated version will work better and doesn`t crash as often as the official version. Why? Because the pirates actually put work in the game, which Ubisoft never does!
