Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!
Too bad, I'd rather see the catalogue always growing in numbers.
Farewell to those three all time classic RPG~
Glad I bought those game since day one~
Just one thing to say: FUCK BETHESDA/ZENIMAX/STEAM or whoever is responsible for this. Reflects everything that is fucking wrong with this "industry". And to GOG: so sorry about this...keep fighting the good fight peeps and we, the people that games are made for and should be made for (not FOR the stupid money sucking publishers and board members/shareholders), will keep supporting you either by buying the games from your site or by sending others your way. I do NOT want to "rent" my games from Steam, I want to OWN them (in the context of the EULA of course)...like it was and like it damn well should be. FUCK DRM! And fuck the modern gaming industry that is "For investors and publishers through bleeding the gamers dry" as opposed to "by people passionate about games and gaming culture for gamers and gaming culture".
Sad to see them go but perhaps the new owners will provide them again at some point, along with a few Elder Scrolls classics. Would love to see those make it to GOG as well.
I'm really glad I picked up the Fallout series for free during that time.
R.I.P. Fallout series on GOG, another casualty in a ongoing war with DRMs.

JasmineMoldovia: Will we ever know why these 3 had to be removed?
I guess if too many young unexperienced players would play great old classics like these, "nobody" would buy the NEW-MODERN-ULTRA-UBER shit-games of today anymore...
Retro, Indie and No-DRM is bad business for the Business.

Yeah, except Fallout games can still be bought on Steam, the biggest modern distributer of the NEW-MODERN-ULTRA-UBER games of today. It's quite simply been removed because GOG doesn't have a deal with Bethesda.

synfresh: This is probably going to be downrated to oblivion, but how hard is it to understand that Bethesda has a business relationship with Valve, hence why their games are on Steam. They do not have one with GoG, hence why their games are not on here. It's really as simple as that. Users crying that it's Bethesda's fault that Fallout isn't here anymore is misplaced, it's due to Interplay. Why do you think Beth should allow their products, especially older titles like Fallout, to be sold here?
Why wouldn't they, other than to spite Valve's competitors? After all, the games were already here, and have been sold here for years. We are not talking about demanding Bethesda to bring some new games to GOG service, we are just talking about Bethesda allowing GOG to continue selling something that is already here.

Many other publishers also have a business relation with Valve, yet that doesn't prevent them from allowing also GOG (or other stores) sell the same games.

There have been several similar cases before where the publisher has changed, and GOG has continued selling the items under the new publisher. And just to remind again: this is not a case of bringing some newer games to GOG, but to allow GOG continue selling some of the existing titles.

But I'm sure the local Steam goon squad keeps claiming we are somehow being unrealistic and unreasonable expecting GOG to be able to continue selling a few older titles.

Steam? What is this Steam? ;-)P
Is this first time they removed game from catalog?
if i were a stock holder in bethesda i'd fire whoever made this decision, the product had already achived market saturation (i have all 3 on cd), yet people like me were rebuying it on gog for the bonus content and not having to search old hd's and pcgamer discs for patches, so all this decision did was cut off a revenue stream, upset customers, and reduce brand convince in their stability.

No, there's a list of earlier games being removed from the GOG catalog before. But a few points:

1. People who had bought them already from GOG, would still have them in their catalog. Just like in this case. But you couldn't just buy the game anymore. There is only one known case where certain game, or rather, the optional Mac version, was pulled also from people's accounts, because GOG _never_ had the right to sell the Mac version of it. But that was a special case. The Windows version is still being sold on GOG.

2. In pretty much all the other cases, the game was pulled from all stores, not just GOG. This was e.g. because there was some sports organization etc. license that expired for the game. So those games would disappear also from Steam.

3. In many cases the game has re-appeared to GOG at a later time, unless if it was indeed of some expired sports license etc. In this case, it is unknown if Bethesda has its tongue so deep inside Valve's arse that it refuses to let GOG continue selling the games here. There have been earlier cases where GOG has been able to continue selling games under the new publisher, but maybe Bethesda is a special case, as they are dicks.

Thanks for an explanation. One more thing, any titles of the previously removed games?

kaileeena: I guess one of the reasons can be that for all of game pulled off before (correct me If I am wrong), they were removed everywhere. This is first time a game is removed from GOG and stays on Steam and rest which showed the ugly face of Bethesda supporting DRM I guess for people.

Just my 2 cents

Why do you think Beth should allow their products, especially older titles like Fallout, to be sold here? Do you think they owe it to the GoG community for some reason? What relationship to they even have with the GoG community to care?

This idea that Beth is going to lose money by not selling them here is also fallacy. I'm sure they have tons of data that show that a month on Steam is probably worth 6 on almost every other distributor, including GoG.
I am not sure if you quoted the right post or not. As your reply is totally unrelated to what I was talking about (except interplay fault part which again wasn't addressed in this quote). Anyhow Beth being a business doesn't mean that we should accept whatever crap it does as a given. Being a business doesn't mean you have to be immoral (although its the status of our current world) but for sure it is not something we have to agree with and say "hey this is how business runs and move away". I don't remember anyone mentioning that Beth is losing money by not offering Fallout here except maybe if enough ppl are upset and actually boycott its products (which from previous experience gamers are usually all talk and once new version is out most will buy it).
