Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!

Sogi-Ya: ... now before you open your mouth to white knight for Bethesda any further, remember how they also fucked Obsidian out of their royalties due to a low Metacritic score (and nearly caused Obsidian to close down) when every complaint about New Vegas was due to bugs in the game ... which was Bethesda's fault because they were the ones doing QA and Obsidian had no control over the state it shipped in.
There's only one reason to whiteknight Bethesda, and that is that they compelled Herve to pay what he owed to his employees as part of the initial sales contract for Fallout. Apart from that their conduct has been near universally dreadful, they clearly tried to constructively bankrupt Interplay to get out of their obligations in the Fallout sales contract, and of course there were the... interesting circumstances surrounding the Prey 2/ Human Head and Dishonored/ Arkane development cycles.
Zenimax/Bethesda has a looong history of purposely dicking other firms, even when it's against their best interest ( Obsidian and FNV for example ) so I doubt they'll even consider allowing GOG to re-distribute someday, and if they do, please GOG please, BE EXTRA CAREFUL WITH THOSE SNAKES, for they'll undoubtedly try to harm you somehow. « It's in their nature » and all that kind of things. It'll be most foolish to expect good will and honesty from Zenimax/Bethesda.

zuhutay: Good thing those who bought the games can keep them on their shelf.

If the games had been removed from the shelves as well, this would mean we have to backup everything bought here on Gog.

MrLongPants: I still do just in case.
I'm amazed that some people don't - it's common sense to keep local backups in case the company goes insolvent. I'm even more surprised when the people not backing up were around for the GoG switch out of beta!
Bethesda and Zenimax have a history of being unethical jerks. Remember when the companies tried to destroy Mojang, the creator of Minecraft?

Google Mojang and Methesda for the story.

FFS, it's almost as bad as trademark troll Tim Langdell and the word "edge".
It's a real shame losing them. Saw them now on Steam for 75% discount (all three).

Fallout I effectively revived all by itself the cRPG genre which at the time was only upheld by two (very) worn out long-lasting franchises (Ultima & Wizardry).
A sad day for Fallout, GOG and DRM free. Hopefully Fallout will be available one day without DRM again.

Btw. Bethesda sucks.
Oh great... At least, I can always pirate the games *if* I ever lose the copies I have. I'm defenitely not buying them through steam.
A board room full of executives agreed to this...

Well said, hopefully anyone who is still defending Bethesda and blaming GOG or Interplay will just move on.

Stupidity.

Stupidity never changes.

GOG.com: Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid.
Well, there goes my good mood.

All right, didn't know about Bethesda trying to sabotage Fallout MMO - could you link some articles, please?

As for the rest of your post... You yourself are saying that Interplay didn't act very morally themselves and I never said Bethesda was a particulary nice company. They most certainly are not. But what you did there was basically "Oh, let's look at all the other shit they pulled" - what happened is still deal between Interplay and GOG running out here, nothing more.

What irks me about this is that I've never seen GOG community shitting at an unrelated company when a game got pulled for whatever reason - except for now. Now Bethesda, who's just not to blame in this particular instance, gets a shitstorm of 'Oh it's all their fault!' - not thinking about the fact that the deal would be off now regardless of who would own the property.

I guess one of the reasons can be that for all of game pulled off before (correct me If I am wrong), they were removed everywhere. This is first time a game is removed from GOG and stays on Steam and rest which showed the ugly face of Bethesda supporting DRM I guess for people.

Just my 2 cents
A darn shame but no surprise since GOG clearly stated that the reason for the Fallout give-away was to say farewell to these titles.
