Turns out Gearbox is doing something with the IP after all.
"The company will also release the original two titles to digital distribution platforms for Windows PC."

The originals are being re-released too? Steam is obvious, but better be coming to GOG too.

I always got the impression that Gearbox hated GOG. I was kind of supremely disheartened when I learned that they got their grubby hands on Homeworld.

What gave you that impression?
Greats news!!! .....eu...waith? gearbox? arf...homworld 1 & 2 with no mods and plenty of DLC....YEAH!
They aren't remakes, they're re-releases. Possibly with some new textures and widescreen resolutions enabled.

Homeworld's source code has been public for years.
Hopefully enough silly people buy the remakes at steep prices so they can make actually something new and good. That would be something.

Well, I tweeted them about a GOG release. I won't hear back, but hopefully somebody at least saw the tweet. (If they really do hate GOG, f--k 'em.)

I hope they also release Cataclysm and some mission pack that name I forgot (if it have any).
Did Gearbox released anything ever DRM free?
I'm not getting my hopes up.

I don't know if they hate GOG, but they sure do like working with publishers that love regional pricing and regional restrictions. They also won't fix a bug in AC:M that causes it to crash on Japanese systems. All that is enough to tell me that them releasing on GOG is unlikely.

Further, seeing what they did with AC:M, would you even want a Homeworld remake they've had input on?

i dont think they have the right to cataclysm, damn the game was awesome,
Pity it is gearbox who holds the homeworld license wish it could have been relic that had them as they know how to make a good strategy game.
