Bigghu: All NIS America games have absurd prices in Brazil, not just this new Ys. Why are these new prices only happening here!?
Compared to the JP PS4 version which is 49.99 converted to local currency is about a tenner cheaper than the PC version sold here and on Steam and likely Epic also. The other versions are almost 1:1 the same price with maybe 2 Euro difference. Still more expensive than need be because there is no physical media involved and no physical extras as is the case with the PS4 or ND:S versions. That's something that's really got to change considering how much they save on packaging and shipping as well as physical and copyright protection measures.

The price of just NIS America games has increased like this. On Steam it's still the same price as it used to be here.

What is the definition of "story" that you are using to get that order? It isn't a bad order, but it doesn't follow the game timeline which is what I would expect from something called story order.

I haven't seen any release that's considerably cheaper compared to Steam on GOG. Monstrum Nox shows 59.99 on Steam and 59.99 on GOG, same version same price. Some are even more expensive on Steam than GOG when they are not on sale. For instance DLC like The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV - Standard Cosmetic Set sell for 31,99 (GOG) and 39,97 (Steam) and that's not the only one. DLC, mind you ... roll 2 2D6 and add the numbers, like. Even without regional pricing their releases are expensive. To expensive I would hold where you get 5 or more full games. No downloadable game can be that good to warrant this price, regional pricing or no.

It is one of the worst decisions of falcom, to have gone through Nisa
Even their translations are pitiful, English too (The ones from Exseed were much better, and captured the essence of the situations, and portrayed the characters well)
We have no idea how XSeed would have been now either. You're just assuming it would have been better, but it certainly might not have. Are you not aware of the changes that have happened over the years at Marvelous? They're owned by Tencent now -- a Chinese conglomerate (for anyone living under a rock) who has deep ties to the Chinese Communist Party. Sounds good, right?

Nippon Ichi Software probably just has a far better relationship with Falcom. Maybe XSeed being under Chinese ownership even had something to do with that switch? I personally think the NISA releases have been very good. The PC ports get amazing attention, and NISA is very good with their GOG releases. They even advertise GOG on their upcoming titles, which is something I can't say everyone else does.

The complaint about the English translations have no basis whatsoever. There was definitely issues originally with Ys VIII, but everything since has been totally fine. Are you not aware that the "precious" XSeed team who translated previous Falcom games have been doing everything since for NISA's Falcom titles?

I'm not saying that the price of Steam is currently cheap, I'm saying that in Brazil the price of NIS America games on GOG increased in an absurd way, even games that had already been released. This one on my wish list had this price a few weeks ago.

The proofs are the facts themselves, you only deny them
They received criticism for the English translation of IX, which forced them to rework it (the patch note is available on PS4)
But they didn't do it for the French version

Just as they had to make a public apology after YSVIII, or received criticism for Cold Steel III for mistranslating something important

You don't need more examples to know that Nisa pays less attention than Xseed on translations (as for Xseed, you just have to see the games they published, and there was never any problem, something you can see directly in game)
They only want to make money out of what they do, and they don't even hide it

The falcom community criticizes Nisa for these reasons, some even start to boycott the games they edit

As for the PC ports, well... we must not play the same games
I remind you that it took a year for YSVII to solve these problems, and currently, YS IX also suffers from various problems, including abnormal GPU consumption (the game does not even detect correctly the saves of the previous YS, for the bonuses)
This said, on this point, Xseed was not necessarily better, but to say that Nisa are more careful and the ports are perfect is a mistake

As for the "good relations" between Nisa and Falcom, you should also remember what happened with Sky and CS, that Nisa did not want to locate, they only accepted it when the series started to be known, unlike Xseed who did it because they were above all passionate and loved these series

Unlike Xseed, all of Nisa's decisions and work have been bad, motivated above all by profitability, and this gives Falcom a bad image in the wake (although people know the difference, which is good)

Lore buildup, # callbacks, and the fact that these games are all chronicled journals by the protagonist as per Ys 1. All minimal improvements. As long as you play 1, 2, Origins, and then eventually Napishtim in that order, you'll have a solid understanding of the overarching story and main lore.
So, assuming the prices are ""correct"", why so much more expensive in Brazil (and other places)?

What the faq, NISA?
The fact that there is a demo on gog (not just on Steam, as mentioned above) should be advertised more prominently (or at least, at all) in the announcement and game pages.

If NISA is "very good with their GOG releases" and if their "PC ports get amazing attention," then why does Ys VIII have no Achievements on GOG, yet it does on Steam?

We do indeed know how XSEED would be if they continued to handle Falcom games, because they have set an established historical precedent of many Falcom games which they published on GOG that they did a good job with and that they gave 100% full parity & equality between the GOG and Steam versions --- unlike NISA, who doesn't.

The last statement of that quoted post is not fully correct. NISA did have a couple of former XSEED employees work on some of their more recent Falcom games...but they certainly didn't have all of them, and they also had their own NISA employees on the team too.

So, no way is any NISA translation team the same as any XSEED translation was, even if they do share a couple of members in some cases.

Nor did NISA ever have the former producer from the XSEED/Falcom games, who was extremely anti-censorship.

NISA, in contrast, goes in the other direction, and is in many ways pro-censorship/"sanitization," and that is reflected in how NISA frequently (mis)translates portions of the original Japanese scripts in accordance with the translators' and/or their bosses' political views & personal ideologies, irrespective of what the original source text says.

Certainly the switch from XSEED to NISA has been disastrous in many ways, and Falcom never should have done it.

MeowCanuck:
I'm still not seeing how you get that order, though I guess trying to argue in any detail would involve too many spoilers for this forum. Personally, I think Origin before I and II makes the most sense. VIII makes a couple of references to things that will happen but haven't happened yet in the timeline (that happen in Ark and Seven), so again I think timeline order is ideal in terms of the story.

TomNuke: They're owned by Tencent now
According to Wikipedia, Marvelous is 20% owned by Tencent as of 2020, which is significant but not the typical usage of the term "owned by" and well after Falcom switched to NISA. Wikipedia has a long list of game companies partly or fully owned by Tencent. It seemed clear to me at the time of the change that NISA was mostly just promising Falcom quite a bit more money, although hard to say what happened behind the scenes.

Hopefully NISA will reinstate regional pricing before too long. I'm guessing they are worried that too many people from wealthier countries are using various means to get a lower regional price on GOG. Hopefully the numbers will show that isn't the case (at least not worse than Steam) and they will put it back.

I knew this was gonna be the first thing out of your mouth. You're a joke poster, man. I really wonder what happened to you to make you be this way...

This is just typical knee-jerk reactions from "outraged" gamers. You're about the same as a Twitter user with pronouns in their bio. Complete joke.

You have no idea how XSeed would be today, especially with the changes that have happened. You talk about precedent, so what about XSeed refusing to fix the broken Achievement issue on THEIR end with Trails of Cold Steel 2. Yes, it's on their end, and GOG has confirmed that, but XSeed abandoned the game and refuse to fix it. Maybe because they lost licensing rights to NISA? Where's the complaints about that from you? Oh, right, because you likely don't even care, and are just looking for something to be complain about.

Do you understand what it means to be the majority owner? Tencent controls that company now, and it's silly to think otherwise.

The first game I've seen on GOG with a price above $100. Perfectly named, "Monstrum" in German means monster. :P
Imagine how many good games you can get for that price instead...
