Run boy, run!

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, a lovingly remastered version of the cult classic platformer, is now available DRM-Free on GOG.com.

Curses! Your arch-nemesis, the Meka-Dragon, has transformed you into a shape-shifting monster that keeps hopping between forms from one level to the next. Start as a boy or girl, then turn yourself into the human/animal hybrid that would best handle the challenges ahead.
But that's not all the mix-and-matching you'll be doing: This fully remastered version offers the option to easily switch between the HD and 8-bit graphics or sound on the fly!

Watch the wonderful trailer.

Ouch, le prix régionnal refroidit. :P

Il est pas dans le prochain Humble Monthly des fois? :D

Quoi qu'il en soit, félicitations pour cette release. J'espère voir de nouvelle chose de vous, les gars! ;)

Smannesman: Steam keys are 20% off on OlderPlayer dot com.
I'll wait for at least 60% off, the original was alright.
Are you substituting Impaler? XD
Lovely. :) Since this one has gotten positive reviews all around, I'm very likely to purchase this than shoving more discounted titles from the sale into my backlog, never to be seen again. I've never played the original, but I've played plenty of Wonderboy imitators, and I've always had a soft spot for them. Couple that with superb visual/aural overhaul, how I can I say no?

Sweet! I was bummed when this didn't get a physical release for Switch, stuck on Nintendo's DRM-laden hardware-tied eShop. If it had a physical Switch cartridge release (which is immortal and resellable), I would likely have bought it but decidedly wouldn't due to that. Now that it's got a DRM-free edition, I've got it wishlisted and will likely pick it up when I get through my backlog.

lol, not to pick on you too much or anything, but I read this as "they didn't give me what I wanted, so I didn't buy it. Now, they're giving me what I want, so I still won't buy it."

Devs can't win :(

Well, I apologize if that sounded like that, but I can explain. Wonderboy looks great, but I haven't been anticipating it as much as others. I only buy Switch games at launch right now if I know it's a limited physical release. Got Puyo Puyo Tetris because there won't be many of those physical copies made. It will become a collector's item. Other than that, I am on a tight budget.

I actually haven't got a Switch yet, but I plan on getting one later. My opportunity to buy a Switch was when I received my graduation money, right around the time I started getting active on GOG. I decided that buying a console for one awesome game is not as good as buying several hundred awesome games for the same price.

Now I have a backlog of almost 200 games, most of which I haven't gotten to yet. Wonder Boy looks sweet and will likely buy it later when I don't have loads on top of me. Would buy a physical card version at launch if they had a limited release of it, since I like owning it that way and has the upside of being a good investment (since all cartridges of the past consoles resell at a premium nowadays). Digitally, I would consider purchasing it full price if I had less games in my backlog, and I think this title may be worth more than your average Indie discount.

Terpor: I really wanted to buy this, but sadly my wallet got hurt by Fallout 3, New Vegas and Oblivion + The Summer Sale. But i can wait 3 - 4 months so that i can buy this, but i'm really glad to see this classic game on GOG.

I hope GOG get's the rest of the Wonder Boy series + some of the classic Megadrive games here.
I'm extremely tempted, as the music itself is calling to me! Though I have WBMW 3-4 via emulator, I'm compelled to snag this due to the excellent artwork!

mechmouse: I had asked them in a discus forum if the linux version will be coming to GoG, they think yes but not 100% sure
Thanks for the information. I'll put the game on my wishlist until they have decided that.

The devs are working on a Linux version.

I had asked them in a discus forum if the linux version will be coming to GoG, they think yes but not 100% sure
I'm highly skeptical about this.
They'd have used OpenGL from the start if it was supposed to be multi-platform and at least DX9 if it was supposed to be somewhat more compatible, but a Linux port after they made it for DirectX10? Unlikely.
I can't imagine them doing the conversion for a few sales afterwards.
Two things:

First, please don't call me "DT"; there is a man with those initials who I absolutely detest, and I would prefer not to be associated with someone that evil.

Second, I didn't back it because I am rather picky about what I am willing to back; more or less it needs to be my favorite type of game, which happens to not be platformers. I might consider getting the game after it comes out, however.

Basically, for me to back a game, it would need to be one of these two types (or very similar):
1. A Wizardry-like; that is a first person dungeon crawler with turn-based party-based combat (non-tactical; I don't like having to constantly manage positioning); said game would have almost no story and allow you to create your entire party.
2. A game inspired by the SaGa series. This would, in particular, include a growth system similar to what you might expect in a SaGa game (in particular, not the conventional Level/XP system that's standard in RPGs). I would also like the game to have queer characters, at least one of whom should be an option for the main character (or, alternatively, the main character at some point in the game).

My stance on such things is more stringent; if a console includes, as a feature, a DRM-laden shop, I will not get the console in the first place, even if the console offers physical games ore non-DRM digital downloads. I've also decided to apply that rule to region-locking; if a console is region-locked, I won't get it.

Note that computers are a special case; as long as the DRM store isn't part of the OS and isn't installed by default, it's acceptable. Simply having Steam available for Linux isn't enough for me to avoid Linux; I just don't install Steam in the first place, and the OS doesn't have any DRM* in it.

* Well, technically Linux *does* have something called Direct Rendering Manager (DRM), but it's something completely different. (Also, why is the spell checker flagging DRM?)

The engine has OpenGL and DX11/ backends (using DX10 feature set).
The game IS multi-platform is runs on 3 consoles.
I switched from OpenGL to DX11 for the release because Windows 10 has been trying hard to sabotage OpenGL with various issues, I get horrible diagonal screen tearing on my Optimus laptop with OpenGL. But the OpenGL renderer is still functional.

The game is actually quite heavy in term of graphics resources (we use a lot of high resolution textures and the game is hand-animated) + many layers of blending. It doesn't run at 1080p/60 fps on 4000 series integrated graphics card.

I made a preliminary Mac port on my spare time a few months ago and now we hired something to resurrect that and be able to release Mac+Linux. We have no idea if it'll recoup, but I'm just saying, those versions are coming (probably in July).

I'd buy it if it had a Linux port without any Galaxy/Client shenanigans in it by default, so I'll just wait.
Thanks for the heads-up, it's possible to make a special golden "dev" account here by the way, just ask the team.
This game was a big part of my childhood, and some form of port of it was the only request I've added to the community wishlist here, years ago.

Been following the development and waiting for this remake for a long time (damn you Switch getting things first.) Looking forward to it!
