Have it your way.

Way of The Samurai 4, a crazy, feudal samurai adventure, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 40% launch discount.

You haven't roamed like this before (unless you played this series before). Way of the Samurai is a previously Playstation exclusive series that's famous for being positively ridiculous, and immensely influenced by your own choices. The series premieres on PC with Way of the Samurai 4, the biggest, most malleable entry so far. You arrive at a fictional Japanese port in a vaguely feudal setting, from this point on - the story is yours.

Way of the Samurai 4 presents a uniquely Japanese take on nonlinearity. You're both capable of changing the world around you, and impressively insignificant.
The world isn't going to wait up for you to make up your mind, events will continue taking place, and the end is inevitable. How you choose to play the cards you're dealt, and whether you decide do anything at all, will affect the outcome. Beneath an action-adventure layer, the game is also a true role playing sandbox - become a samurai hero, a selfish bandit, or a suave, silent protagonist. You'll have a huge amount of control in creating your character or how you play him, and if you ever want to interrupt a cutscene by slashing everyone to pieces, well, that's your prerogative.

You can also pick up the Way of The Samurai 4 DLC Pack, including new missions, new weapons, new clothing, and returning characters! Check it out.

Walk your path in the Way of The Samurai 4, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until October 9, 12:59 PM GMT.
Don't let the 30 FPS turn you away, the game is very deep with lots of stuff in it. Particularly Mega Melons

and DRM-free Mega Melons for 40% off?
Well worth the coin my fellow GOGers

Was just recently talking about how it would be great to see more console/PS3 exclusives on PC ( especially here on GOG ). And then this shows up! And it's by a Japanese developer team as well, isn't it?

Moar of this!

omega64: I'm not sure why I would even need to justify it. xD
It feels/looks worse to me, that's all I need. It's my own money and time I'm spending after all. :P

Edit: for example, I kept screwing up the timing for counters in Metal Gear Rising due to the game locking itself at 50 fps for some reason. (which I fixed by turning vsync off entirely)

bad_fur_day1: Fair enough. I respect your right to like or dislike any game you want and not buy it for whatever reason. ^^

I was just flipping out a bit, I don't think the human eye can actually tell the difference, but that's just me.
Considering that the human eye does not see in any limit of frames per second, yeah, it can definitely tell the difference.

That being said, framerate isn't a huge deal for me. I prefer 60, but I can still play a game comfortably enough at 30. I prefer owning a physical copy which actually belongs to me, so I'll stick with my PS3 copy of this game.
Does this game still have audio bugs and crashing issues? I experienced those when I tried it out on Steam before getting a refund.
I... ummm.... err..... What???
Instabuy! Been waiting and hoping this would come here, and am happy to add it to my shelf. Thanks Acquire, Ghostlight, and GOG!

Dayuuuuuum!

Never enough Japanese slasher games. I've only played the first game ages ago on PS2 but it was a blast. If this one is anything like the original - HELL YEAAAAH!

If we could only get Dynasty Warriors now. Please, GOG, pleeeeaaaase! Make it happen!

Chacranajxy: The eye can definitely tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. Hell, even between 60ffps and 120fps. This is... not really anything new.
You're mixing up physiology with technology, but the point is well-taken. When you have higher fps on a monitor that can display higher fps crisply, you get less motion blur. That's because of the technology (how long it takes to light up a pixel, how long it takes to turn it off, and the overall waveform of brightness vs time), not your eye.

Where you look, your eye can get around 10-12 frames per second. The outside of your eye is better at seeing flicker and can go up a bit from there.

I've seen a lot of folks complain about 30fps. If you can notice a large difference from that and 60fps, you may want to purchase a better monitor the next time you get one. Although higher refresh rates usually mean less motion blur, you can also get very crisp images with lower-refresh-rate monitors. It's all about how fast the pixels turn on and off and different technologies that can improve the appearance of them turning on and off (like flashing backlights).

Your so full of shit. -chuckles- You must have worked for the tobacco companies back in the eighties working damage control. The difference between 30 and 60 on any monitor is massive, and easily discernible.

I am of the people who cannot tell the difference. Here's some interesting stuff if you care to peruse some more:

http://www.technologyx.com/featured/understanding-frame-rate-look-truth-behind-30v60-fps/

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/the-30-vs-60-fps-test-can-you-see-the-difference-29377212/?page=1

http://boallen.com/fps-compare.html

http://techreport.com/news/25051/blind-test-suggests-gamers-overwhelmingly-prefer-120hz-refresh-rates

I can see a difference in boallen's, but it's subtle. I can't tell you which is 30 and which is 60 in the gamespot forum post with Dark Souls.

I found it interesting in the techx (or techreport -- I can't remember) article that it wasn't 100% of people who could ID the correct 120hz monitor. Some people just can't see it.

I think a lot depends, of course, on the types of games you play and your own biology. When I wrote the eye has 10-12 fps capability, that's not 100% true. The eye doesn't work on fps. But double 10-12 fps to eliminate aliasing should remove any problems from looking at something. So 30fps should be a good smooth image. That said, peripheral vision plays a roll, as well as your hardware.

On a good monitor, I can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 for most games. But I do notice a difference with blur from a lousy monitor to a good monitor to a high refresh monitor.

Anyhoots, I've had no problem with 30fps games. I suppose that is my disability that yields a benefit.

I confess, I've never heard of this game before, but, the chance to play as a samurai, GOG's screenshots and the youtube videos posted here were enough to want to play it!

Better, yet, second release of the day NOT REGIONALLY PRICED!! That's the way to do it, other devs/publishers, do you hear? Try this approach, instead of the tradiotional T.Tale of different countries, differente prices...

EDIT: well, guess I spoke too soon... I've become so used to seing the darn "Fair Price Package" store credit message, I just assumed these guys went full worldwide price... apparently, they believe in the quote "You never go full worldwide price . The RU,UA, UZ Gogers get the usual low price.

This is the most bizarre release thread of comments I've ever seen. I couldn't give two squats less if it's running at 30 fps or not just as long as the game itself works and is playable. And some folks that frequent these forums want a game for graphics? I think it's time to devote yourself to AAA new releases that don't end up here currently.

I really hope some day the first three games can be brought to PC and GOG, even if the past entries have nothing to do with this fourth game. I still have the first one on PS2 sitting on my game shelf and haven't played it in ages...just got this, so going from 1 to 4 is going to be quite the jump ;D

I simply like to see whole series complete and in one convenient place!

Scored it with it's DLC!

I can’t see the difference, I feel it. The responsiveness on screen is faster, as if player and input device has achieved a higher level of control. It can be the difference between a reasonable yet detached experience, and making you feel like a demi-god. Unsurprisingly everyone on either side of the argument seems more focused on what the eye perceives, which just goes to show why developers prefer dumping valuable game resources into pretty visuals. How do you market a game to the public on how it ‘feels’ when that cannot be conveyed through videos or screenshots? We humans need something more tangible.

When it comes to Japanese games on PC, we can’t afford to be picky. That’s already rarer than a copy of Suburban Commando on Blu-ray!

How can one not like a game where everyone is brandishing swords while wearing bathrobes? Wishlisted right away
