Well, this looks interesting.. I love me some third-person action and samurais. Has anyone here played any of these games? And of course.. can it Linux? ;)
If any of the Ghostlight staff is reading this, it would be great to know on what would it take to get the 'Way of the Samurai 3 Plus version" ? A lot of content has been added in that version.

Carradice: A question for the veterans:

Newcomers to the series will be better served starting with Way of the Samurai 3 or with 4?

I am reading 3 is more serious (which I prefer), but also that the main story in 4 may be played seriously as well, with the crazy stuff as an open option.

I liked Sleeping Dogs (doing some crazy stuff now and then) but never finished Saints Row 2, if that serves as a reference.
Kind of like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest in that the games are completely independent of each other. Sure, there's references, but the storylines aren't even tied. I started with 3 on the PS3. The game eases you into it as if you've never played one of them before, especially since it feels like it was designed not to be binged, but played every now and again.
I wonder if there's enough interest to also port the PS2 games in the series to PC: Way of the Samurai and Way of the Samurai 2... I'd love to play those releases too with a fresh coat of paint :)

Seems to me like, on top of getting the typical USD=EUR price hike (even for non-Euro countries), somebody forgot even the fair price package for the Deluxe Edition?

The base game is $11.82 with a $1.83 credit, with a normal price of $23.64, the Deluxe is $29.54 with no credit. (Upgrade is $7.09 with $1.10 credit.)

Right, so what're you europeans paying?
i easily logged over 200 hours on wots3 on my 360. i loved it so much i traded it in like an idiot, & then bought it back when i missed it so much!

its fun running around doing stupid things like kicking people, or bludgening ppl /w the flat of the sword, just because you can & their honor is bruised even more because of it.

i highly recommend dual ninja style stance, although it takes a long time to attain / master.

these games may not have the gr8est graphics but the fun factor & replay value along /w their soundtrack is very entertaining in my opinion.

buy it immediately.
A loong time ago i played the first one and it was one of the best games i ever played, quite short but a huge number of different paths to choose and challenging fights. But as far as i remember it was a serious game, maybe even historic...if i take a look at the screenshoots for this game i see crazy stuff like cat&angel-clothes...^^ i don't like the idea of a cat-samurei or something like this.

All the games have a serious storyline with a historical basis. The first was the end of the samurai era and how existing samurai should handle it, the fourth is around the time of Perry's Black ships, about how Japanese people should react to the foreigners forcing their way in. Haven't played 2 or 3 yet, but I'd expect the storylines to be just as serious.

The wacky stuff in the games is pretty much entirely optional, relegated to sidequests and optional unlockable costumes.
So apparently the first two games in the series were PS2-only? Were they any good?

PSP as well, but i think those were J-only releases.

I mean, for the most part, 3 is pretty serious and more in tone with the first game. Even the first had goofy things like Afro Samurai showing up and a few strange side quests here or there.
