Fantastical sounds and sights.

Trine 2: Complete Story becomes more complete today with a Soundtrack & Artbook Pack, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 75% discount!

The Trine universe is magical in setting as much as sound and sights. The complete story can now be seen and heard in two new ways, thanks to this wonderful pack containing the original soundtrack by award-winning composer Ari Pulkkinen, as well as an artbook annotated by the game developers themselves.

In Trine 2: Complete Story, three inseparable heroes embark on a quest through magical, colorful, and awe-inspiring locations. The diverse and lush environments are packed to the brim with inventive puzzles, challenges, and danger. It will take precision, wits, and--most of all--teamwork, to lead the iconic trio through the ordeal!

Complete your fantasy with the Soundtrack & Artbook Pack available now on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Monday July 20, 4:29 PM GMT.
All of us like more bang for our buck, but offering the soundtracks and artbooks for free comes at the cost of the artists who created them. They deserve to be paid for their work.
I am just happy to have the choice to get these extras if I want. Plus the price is good if it is something you want. Thanks for letting us have the chance to get these JoelFB!
at first I thought Trine 2 had been upgraded as a marketing tool for Trine 3. Then I realized you're selling the upgrade.

Probably still as a marketing tool for 3.

Being as I have this game on humble bundle, I think maybe in more than one, and as well on Steam, at least one, I think I have the artbook. probably from the humble bundle at least. so I shall skip it.
Waiting now for Trine 2 Completely Completed Story - Special Edition (with soundtrack and 3 avatars extra) and the Trine 2 Completely Completed Story - Special Edition Upgrade..

Ok, so first things first - please do not blame GOG for, well, any of this. We are aware that GOG generally prefers that soundtracks and other goodies are included with the base game. However, in our case, we couldn't have it any other way - we sell the same package on Steam, and it would not be fair to the Steam customers if we suddenly gave it for free on GOG. Humble Bundle is a special case and should be treated as such, and while technically "for free", that's not really how we feel about it (nor how we feel customers should feel about it but everyone's entitled to their opinion of course). The same Steam comparison goes for pricing. We figured the 75% discount would be good for those GOG customers who have been asking about it (in the earlier thread). What we perhaps misunderstood was that GOG put it up on the front page, we pretty much thought it would just quietly appear and we'd inform folks in the earlier thread and everybody would be happy.

As for FLAC, the reason this is MP3 (same as Steam, and I believe the Humble Bundle as well) is that we have an agreement with our composer that he can sell the FLAC versions on his website and we only use the MP3 version. I can understand your frustration regarding this, and you can call it greed if you want, but as with many other things, these can get really complicated and this is one of the problems it has created. The way I feel about it is that if you really like the music, you might want to support the composer who did it by buying the soundtrack from him directly, thus supporting his future music endeavors. I'll give you a personal refund if you have previously bought the soundtrack on Steam or GOG and now buy it from Ari directly (send me a receipt for the original purchase and I'll do it).

In the future we will do things somewhat differently, at least for some games - Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power (upon release) will include the soundtrack with the game, for example (this is a small thank-you to our Early Access/Pre-order buyers, i.e. they get the soundtrack for free basically, most likely still as MP3 though).

JoelFB: I apologize for any disappointment, but [..] We have been selling this package on Steam since launch [..]
It's fine, some users exhaggerate with their demands here (expecially for recent titles).
The upgrades offered for free for both games were already a nice surprise : )

Just so I'm clear, you're including the soundtrack for free with Trine 3 only for pre-orders, correct? Once the game has been released, the soundtrack will also be an additional charge. Or am I misunderstanding?

Fine. I can understand that, but I still reserve the option to complain when things are not going exactly the way I want.
How else will they know it does not make me very very happy.
Good. This can be a stepping stone to other things, such as strategy guides, videogame history books, and so forth. For me, promoting gaming as an identity calls for gaming-related media to be readily available.

Ah sorry, should have clarified - we will raise the game's price upon official release on Steam (as per Steam's Early Access guidelines), at which point we'll also add the soundtrack. So it's a bit of both, really, not a huge difference but I thought I'd mention since the separate soundtrack is a hot topic now. On GOG the price is already the final price (the pre-order discounts should counter any difference compared to Steam at the moment) so GOG users will simply get the soundtrack added at launch.

Perfect. Thank you for the clarification!

Oh, and +1 for you! Exactly what I thought what explanation you´d give! And it´s a correct and legitimate one!
Edit: Well, how about talking to your composer to bring the FLAC-Version to GOG as a seperate package as well? Your composer could self-publish it and so on...
(would be simplier and more intuitive than using someones website!)

Thanks, and indeed this is an interesting idea. The reason why we haven't done a special royalty-share agreement stuff with our composer Ari is that it would make things extremely complicated on the financial side (i.e. every month/quarter/year we'd need to calculate the amounts, and they would be quite tiny, so it's a lot of work for little gain; especially when sales and discounts are taken into consideration, and there's the "who decides the discount %" and such issues too). If he sold the FLAC separately here, that would of course eliminate the reporting burden, even if the basic paperwork takes time too... It might get complicated for the user though if we had two packages here (we wouldn't want to just delete ours, and there's the artbooks to consider as well)... Ugh. My head is spinning already. :)

If and when the backend systems on GOG and elsewhere become more flexible in the future, this might turn out to be a great way to do things like this. Right now it's probably a bit too much trouble for what it's worth... We'll take the experience and feedback though, and figure out if we can make our future games better on this front, whether it's by the backend or other arrangements, or by eliminating the need altogether by e.g. including the soundtrack with the game (and for Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power this should be a given now).

Thank you for taking the time to explain.

As a nutter who has all three games here and T1 and T2 on the WiiU picking this up to listen to on my way into work ;)

Edit: Well ~$1 really didn't matter to me at all (thanks for the 75% discount) ... Just went to buy it and realised I have $1.90 of store balance anyway ... so free (effectively right now)!
