wishlisted, cant afford it now.

astroclay: Looks great! Wishlisted for now until I can finish TiTS and... well, my computer is literally a toaster and it wouldn't be able to run CS even if it tried.
avatar
huan: Literally?
I want that cookware!

In all seriousness though, the game plays great even on a computer with low specs. I broke down and bought it after seeing the programmer play it on a windows handheld. This is one slick port!

_ChaosFox_: The pervert in me expected to see a pair of tits behind that link.
Got you covered, here is a pair of tits ;)

Too steep an asking price for me personally right now, especially since I haven't finished the TitS series. But TiCS is on my RADAR. Thanks XSEED and GOG.

MadalinStroe: Actually it's the XSEED publisher/translator that brought all these games to GOG and HB DRM-Free. Nihon Falcom who, in this case, are just the developers of the game, had no say on which digital distribution platforms the game would get published on. None the less, I'm impressed by XSEED's and I hope they get financially rewarded for their dedication to DRM-Free.
You think Nihon Falcom had no language in their licensing contract as o how the games could be sold once ported? Pretty sure being the rights holder that they had at least a little to do with it, regardless of XSEED's current licensing status. Still very gld to see a DRM-free release here and HB.

I have no idea, I have never seen a contract, but when it comes to restrictions as to where XSEED could sell the game, I think that there would be none. After all they have been doing business together since 2010, on more than 20 games.

EDIT: In fact wiki lists exactly 20 games.

I'm pretty sure the developer of a game gets a major say in whether a game gets to Gog or not and not just the publisher. Most of XSeed's PC games have made it to Gog, but not all of them. (like Akiba's Trip and that Senran Kagura game they released this year) Those were from another developer than the Ys and Trails series. Falcom's just been very chill with them regarding DRM-free products.
Is it just me or am I the only one that is enjoying the fact that the DLC isn't here?

I've always found costume DLC to be rather pointless, to be honest, and I especially hate it when I have to scan through huge DLC lists just to find DLC that is worth a damn (e.g. story DLC).
Wishlisted. A sale on the previous games would have been cool to celebrate this release. I've been keeping track of the first one since a few months after it was released, thinking "when it drops to a higher than 50% discount", which hasn't ever happened yet for any game in the series (in previous sales I felt that if I bought it at 50% off it would hurt me because I could have just done that years ago. It's a pride/feelings issue, sorry about that, XSEED and GOG).

I've read the three Durante articles about this port, and it almost can't get any better (almost because it doesn't have official 3D Vision support. If Durante were a 3D user, I'm sure it would have been fixed). It's 1000 times ahead of the console version, because of good performance and extra options and improvements.

DLCs are here now. That should make the completionists happy.

Kunovski: they're just costumes ;)

GoG version is half.

Publisher always threating us like second class citizens. Why are we playing half game while Steam users enjoys full experience?
all of the DLCs are still just costumes ;)

If only. :-P I might get the costume pack if it's ever discounted enough, but a Shining Pom bait pack? At £7.99...? (Regionally priced too.)

I'm very happy to see the game here, but I'm not taking that bait.

would be a lot better if there was a Linux port :(
I believe the base game comes with three Shining Pom bait items as free DLC already, so there's no need to get the Shining Pom Bait pack. (Shining Poms in Cold Steel are essentially free level-ups) The pack contains 27 bait items, I believe, but 27 free level-ups are overkill for anyone with an attention span. You miss nothing by not getting that one.

Kardwill: The "Trails in the Sky" games from the same series have a fair number of adult-looking PCs, even if the main character is a teenager. In the 2 first games I played, there are 7 adults, 5 teens and 1 child. But this title is apparently about an academy, so a young cast makes sense.
But yeah, having an age 30+ main character instead of a spiky-headed teen may be nice sometime ^^
I only have the first TitS game that was released here. Never finished it, but it was pretty fun and the characters I encountered weren't so bad.

As for the age and design of the main character(s), I think I'll just have to accept that I'm no longer part of their target audience, and the characters are mostly meant to appeal to younger players. That's why I like games such as Dragon's Dogma, since you can just design your own characters.

Erpy: Part of the reason for the large filesize is the uncompressed audio. The music and (apparantly) the voiced lines are all uncompressed wav-files. The good: this game has a really good soundtrack and pretty solid voice acting and you'll get to hear it in all its lossless glory. The bad: it takes up a lot of disk space.

And funnily enough, the games semi-acknowledge the teenage thing by making all the adults much more competent and badass than the teenage protagonists. :)
Yeah, I figured it must be something like that. Game content alone usually doesn't cause such increases in file size, not when it's all low-poly/ low-res. Audio and video files are the most likely culprits.

And what you said about the characters actually sounds pretty funny. That's one reason I don't like all these young characters in J-RPGs, because they're usually portrayed as battle-hardened mercenaries and soldiers, when they look like they're barely out of their diapers. XD If these characters are inexperienced and a little clumsy, that might help make them feel more convincing.

Maybe I'll give the game a chance, but I'll wait for a discount first. By the way, since you seem to know the series well, what are the main gameplay differences between this and the older TitS games? Is the combat different?
