Gonchi: Nice, looking forward to Riana Rouge, Days of Oblivion, Blue Heat The Case of the Cover Girl Murders and Latex showing up soon.
Riana Rouge is terribly awesome... or awesomely terrible... Either way, it's probably one of the best worst FMV games out there. :) The lead actor (Gillian Bonner) was the game's art director and was heavily involved in the production side of things. That made the game easier for me to appreciate, as there can't be too many soft-core sci-fi/fantasy/horror FMV adventures created by women.

Lemon_Curry: Sadly, John Hurt's involvement provides no quality guarantee.

fronzelneekburm: Bro, John Hurt's involvement IS the quality guarantee. Even if the game were a complete pile of shit - which it most certainly isn't, even though it may not be to everyone's taste and it offers precious little of actual gameplay value - it still has one of the greatest actors ever in it. I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I think this is well worth the onefiddy asking price just for the chance to see an accomplished actor in one of his lesser seen roles.
But you do know that John Hurt is not really a main character in this game?

WildHobgoblin: The exploration parts are optional, it's basically a bunch of things you can look at/read (or not, if you'd rather skip it). Bear in mind, those are the only parts that you get to "do" stuff, though.
The only mandatory things are
a) the TATs (get shown pics, answer "sex!", move on)
b) a short evaluation at the beginning of each mini-chapter, stating what you think about the protags' actions in the footage shown right before
(there's no right or wrong in either of those)
avatar
Siegor: Wait, does that mean what we do in the game doesn't alter the story in anyway?
No, that is not true but unfortunately the only way to alter the story are the psychological questions asked during the game. So you might not really know how your answer changed the story. In addition the main story will mostly always be the same (as it is with nearly all choice based I know of).

Sure I know. You think I'd write all that stuff without having played the game? I still have the DVD somewhere.

He's not the main character, but his character features prominently in the game and plays a vital part in it. It's not like they hired him to perform a 5 minute cameo just so they can slap his face on the cover
From the video and screenshots, it looks like all you do is walk around, watch an occasional video and select an option on how you feel about things. Is there more to it than this?

That basically is it. This is more "video" than "interactive".

Nope. The story changes a bit, depending on your choices during the Q&A sessions, but that's about it.

Did not want to offend you here but it could also have been that you are just a big John Hurt fan and never experienced him in this game that's why I was asking.

But since you say you have the DVD. There actually was a German DVD of the game available?

An FMV game I never heard of? With possible boobs? Deserves a wishlist from me, obviously.

No offense taken. Thanks for the well-intentioned warning! ;)

According to this website, there was. But I can't confirm this myself, since I played the UK import.

The information seems to be correct. Adventurecorner.de is writing

"'Die Versuchung' kann entweder per Ebay, oder Amazon Marketplace erstanden werden. Mit ganz viel Glück bietet sich bei Ebay vielleicht sogar die Gelegenheit, die DVD Fassung zu ersteigern. Für diese wird man allerdings - aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach - relativ tief in die Tasche greifen müssen."

Damn ... I only can offer GOG the German CD version. Maybe they'll add it as a bonus.

Sorry, fronzelneekburm. In an earlier post I misunderstood and assumed you weren't aware of the DVD version. Glad that you own the DVD!

I'm looking forward to installing the GOG version to see what it looks like. Honestly, just happy it showed up here. Always excited to see FMV offerings on GOG. :)

There's been some guy digging through the source code (which, apparently, comes with the game or something?) trying to figure out the algorithm, and your answers to the TATs and the questions do alter the story, however, there is a random element as well, apparently it's stronger towards the end - at least that's what said guy claimed.
[Edit: There is some ancient interview with the devs that confirmed there's basically no exact way to manipulate the game, hence there can't be any proper "walkthroughs", more of a trial and error sort of thing...]

The "alters the story"-thing has a problem, though - yes, according to what you pick you will get a slightly different story, and there are seven (some say, eight) different endings as well, but you'll never know why you get this or that ending, this or that scene. Makes replaying a bit chore-y, to me at least. Also makes talking about the game a bit tricky, since person A might act crazy in one scene in your playthrough, but appear totally reasonable in mine.
