The future has an intriguing past.

Tacoma, an affecting, multi-pathed mystery that you can explore at your own pace, is now available, DRM-Free on GOG.com

In space, no one can hear you bond. No one except the high-tech surveillance system which records and recreates the echoes left behind by the six people who used to live aboard the enigmatic Tacoma station. Now their lives, relationships, and peculiarities are yours to piece together, as you retrace their steps and interact with the objects they left behind.

Intrigued to find out more about the game? Fullbright, the studio which also gave us the lovely Gone Home, recently posted a video about The Making of Tacoma, where they give some insight on the story and setting of their upcoming adventure. It's totally worth a watch, plus you can pause, fast forward, and manipulate the footage any way you like!

Another new release at a strange time for GOG!

What's the minimum OpenGL version on Linux and Mac?
Requirements state "Onboard or dedicated graphics accelerator with 1GB+ of video RAM", but given the Windows requirements set a minimum for DX11 card, I doubt for example that my nVidia 330M GT (up to OpenGL 3.3) may handle the game.

I think they did a great job with Gone Home (from all the times I've seen Let's Plays and twitch streams of it, since I never bought it, myself), and as a fan of the "walking simulator" sub-genre, I more than welcome any team trying to do more stuff within it. So, kudos, Fullbright.

I'm waiting for Ys Seven to hit GOG so, unless you guys get NOLF, NOLF 2, Jazz Jackrabbit or Jazz Jackrabbit 2 before Ys Seven, that's likely to be the next game I'm buying here. Tacoma looks good and interesting and intriguing, and all that, but it's still not enough to break my Ys Seven promise. The price seems to be about right, considering the pedigree of the studio, I guess.

Depending on the reception Tacoma gets, I might consider getting it down the line.

Too bad it's RP. I'll wait.
Creep Simulator 2.0. Yay.
As long as you like this kind of game it's one of the best games this year:

Thanks for this (I guess I would have looked for reviews sooner or later, but it's nice to have someone countering my laziness this soon :P ).

Well, it looks like I will be getting this game, after all. I'm a sucker for interactive narrative/"walking simulator" games, so Tacoma is probably for me. I'm just not getting it right now, since I'm saving my money for other games I've been waiting for a long time, and also because I have enough to play as it is (damned backlog, the bane of any contemporary gamer).
awesome.

been looking forward to this for a long, long time now. thank you fullbright and gog. :)
ha ha, always amused by reviews like "this is a walking simulator, there's no action, so I can't give it 5 stars" :D

anyway, I loved Gone Home and I'll definitely pick this up later (when I feel a lack of atmospheric games on my HDD, which I don't at the moment :P

GOG, I think it's high time you only let people with the game in their accounts write reviews or vote on it.

Or at the very least remove reviews that clearly state they didn't play the game and don't even intend to.

Yeah, I get it. Not everyone likes "walking simulators". I personally don't. But this review/score bombing shit is just shameful. And it's clearly abuse of the system you established, so please do fix it.

What the shit!? Somebody played it blind for 77 minutes and saw the end credits. Again gog. Pricing. Really? I mean it's cool you sell all your games for 75% off once in a while but is this the price we have to pay for this?

If you're one of those people who thinks a game's value should only be measured by how long it takes to finish, then clearly this game is not for you and you're better off not buying it, anyway.

This is a "walking simulator", it's not supposed to require the players' undying dedication for months on end. Not all games have to be RPGs or drawn-out strategy games, and if you're exclusively looking for play time duration, you should stick to those, since you're probably getting the most "bang for your buck" out of them.

Like it has been said *many* times before, these games aren't for everyone. They can be good or bad, within the genre, but even the very good ones won't appeal to the vast majority of the gaming community, especially if you're talking about "traditional" gamers.

As for the whole "this game is short so it shouldn't be sold at this price", that's your opinion, but I honestly disagree. A game's value shouldn't be measured only by the time it takes to complete. I've played many short games that I found to be way better, more interesting, relevant, thoughtful and engrossing than 30+ hour games that just have you go through the same old Tolkien-ish fantasy worlds while doing quests for NPCs I don't care about just to level up and save a fantasy world I don't care about while encountering the same Monty Python or Star Wars/Star Trek nerd inside references over and over and over and over again.

Fullbright spent years designing this world. They do great world/scenario building and amazing character development -- especially amazing, considering the player character is usually the only *factual* character in their games, and somehow they make you care about people who aren't even physically there. They put a lot of effort into creating this game, and they should be acknowledged for that, even if the game is "short" by a lot of people's standards. So far, this seems to be one of the best games of the year (again: provided you do like "walking simulator" or interactive narrative experience games, of course), according to critics and players alike, which makes its €20 price seem more than reasonable, to me.

Absolutely. And a 77 minute blind dash to the finish line is no indication of the amount of actual game content. It rather is the ultimate waste of your time.

With youtubers like that around, you really wonder how much irony there really was in Ashly Burch's "Gone Home" episode of "Watcha playin Ash".

I don't particularly like first person shooters and real time strategy, but I don't go around posting warning reviews on GOG that "this game is not for everyone".

Thank you, that calms me a little. I obviously did not watch the video because I like the setting and hope to play it myself. I loved Gone Home and spent many hours drafting the relations of things and persons in the house. Good to know from you two that this guy practically ran through so I'm guessing it's around Gone Home scope.

I stand by my opinion that 20 bux for one hour playtime would be too much though, if the game really did not offer more to see. As such, I absolutely demand 5 hours or so playtime by titles costing around 50 Euro (as it was with Bioshock when it came out) - and I'm on the low side here hearing around. Which makes 10 Euro for an hour about right. I kinda remember this is the good old "cinema" ruling.
