Pick up your blaster and fall in line, trooper!

Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II, a firsthand experience of the greatest Star Wars™ battefields, is available now on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount!

Star Wars™ Battlefront™ was the answer a decade old question: "What would it be like to be a stormtrooper?" It was the first time gamers got the opportunity to participate in the greatest battles of the Star Wars™ films - not as a mighty hero or all-seeing commander - but as a common footsoldier, a disposable cog in the galactic war machine.
One year later, Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II took that answer to a whole new level, expanding on nearly every aspect of the first title. The game dwarfed its predecessor in content with more battles raging across 18 famous locations, frantic space combat with massive boardable capital ships, and the addition of playable heroes and villains from the Star Wars™ universe.

Fall in line, trooper, and take your place on the battlefield in Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II, available now for Windows on GOG.com!
The 20% launch discount will last for 72 hours until Friday, January 23, at 1:59 PM GMT.

Hmm, might be an issue with my installation. I just installed the original on it and it's having the same issues. Will post more if I figure out what's going on; BF I works fine on other installations of XP.
I just played through the tutorial in WinXP and didn't see any problems.

Yeah it looks like I've having some underlying hardware issues with that one machine, so it's not XP itself. I've installed on two other XP installations without issue, and, to test things, also reinstalled the first BF. This one machine crashes in the exact same manner with BF I as it does with BF II, but the other two are fine with both. I tightened up some connections, re-seated the CPU cooler, and even my "problem child" XP machine seems to be running normally for now and both BF I and BF II work fine.

Based on some testing, I can assume that the games can tax the CPU so much that, if the CPU cooler isn't seated perfectly, you get crashes or reboots. That would fit with some other issues that had emerged apart from BF issues.
