The marvels of evolution.

SPORE™, an organic playground of custom-made creations, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 60% launch discount.

At what stage does a living organism start taking its shape, absorbing influences from its environment, its parents, or its peers? For these SPORE™s it happens during their very conception when you get to decide their characteristics and traits, then see them grow from Cells, to Creatures, to an entire Tribe, to a glorious Civilization, and eventually a Space-faring people. Apart from your virtual offspring themselves, you will also get to design their vehicles and buildings, as well as determine all aspects of their eventful lives. And eventful they will be, because when you start exploring the universe, other species might try to befriend or fight your guys for intergalactic supremacy. It's a wonderful journey that begins with the versatile creation tool, but the decisions you make along the way will determine how, where, or even when it will end.

Create your own unique species and spread their influence across the galaxy with SPORE™, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 60% discount will last until September 29, 12:59 PM UTC.

I liked this game up to the space stage. Maybe it was just my machine, but it really slowed down when I go there. The creature and tribal stages were my favorite.
lgr is always worth watching.

thanks for the video.

Ok, um.... <speechless>

This is one of the last games I would have thought to see come to GOG.com honestly. Even if someone hates the game, hates the publisher, etc., just having this game here on GOG.com is a huge symbolic triumph in the war against DRM.

I say that because when this game was nearing it's official release it was one of the most highly anticipated games of that year, however they released it with some of the most horrendous draconian DRM ever created by man to date. Myself and virtually every other friend I knew had highly anticipated the game and everyone planned on buying it shortly after release, including most friends that were into piracy primarily. The game excited everyone and we all wanted it - but as soon as we found out about the draconian DRM the game shipped with, and all of the reaction to it from gamers etc. it just created a dark cloud around the game that none of us wanted to have anything to do with. As a result, out of about 10 friends who had planned to buy the game, zero of us bought the game nor played it. I know of only one of those friends who ended up pirating the game a few years later just to try it out briefly and he said it wasn't as great as he had expected it to be and didn't bother playing it any further. As far as I know, nobody else ever bothered with the game due to the DRM and other factors surrounding the game's release and it was one of the first titles to go on the "dead to me" list years ago. :)

So seeing it show up here is a complete 180 that I really never expected. I'm going to have to wait to see what the public consensus is on the release overall, but put it on the wishlist in the mean time. If for no other reason than that it holds a place in the history of video gaming with all the bad and good, and it would be great to be able to experience the nostalgia first hand some time with the comfort of knowing that I never caved in to the draconian-DRM machine to get it.

It fuels my thoughts of "If it could happen with *Spore*, then pretty much any game is potentially on the table now really."

Truly an unexpected shocking release from GOG. Perhaps not the most anticipated one, but definitely the most surprising to date in my eyes. Definitely a massive GOG success milestone to say the least.

Congrats GOG on scoring this!

Matruchus: Hm, kind of strange to see this here since Spore is mostly an online game. I wonder how they solved the online content distribution. Still nice to see it here.

Still no C&C :/

Come on EA!!!!!!
Hey, if they just deshackled Spore from its DRM anything is possible. :oP

I think the possibility of seeing some or all of the C&C games show up here in the future just went up dramatically. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of them appear here within the next year even, although I'd be shocked to see the whole Ultimate Collection show up here in that time frame.

Still though, GOG sales must be doing well for the games or we probably wouldn't be seeing newer big titles from EA and other companies showing up here with increasing regularity over time. It's very promising!
I understand the significance of this, but I just can't make myself like the game, given it's history. I'm sorry, but that well is far too poisoned to even try to fix it.

After watching some gameplay videos, i can't say I'm really excited about it; while the idea is great, i think the game is too simple & "childish" (at least for my taste). Maybe I'll try it in the future sometime, but for now I'll pass. In any case, thanks for your input! ;)
So wait, there has been a Maxis game in every EA batch since SimCity 4 in 2014. Could this mean we'll see The Sims 1 or 2 this year?

But anyway, I guess I'll buy it as I instabought SC3K in July.
Wow, I didn't realize the game was actually cheaper on GOG than it is on Steam also. It's $40.17 CAD on Steam right now for the Spore bundle that includes the same stuff as the GOG release, but it's only $37.19 regular price on GOG, almost $3 cheaper. I wonder how they managed to pull that off.

Crap, I just checked Origin and the Spore Collection on GOG is cheaper than buying it there too. They don't seem to have a "collection" there so you have to buy the individual components separtely at $19.99 + 29.99 + $19.99 = $69.97

If anything I would have expected it to be equal priced or slightly more expensive here, but it's cheaper which is really surprising.

Getting closer, but still not the release of The Sims... Bought it for the nostalgia though. :)
Can someone from GOG confirm whether or not the GOG release comes with the SPORE Creature Creator?

http://www.spore.com/creatureCreator
https://www.origin.com/can/en-us/store/spore/spore-creature-creator/standard-edition

Followup question: If it isn't included, will it be made available in the future perhaps, either as a bonus goodie, or as addon DLC?

I don't see any mention of it in the store page or release announcement, but it is available on Origin as a separate purchase and on the Spore site above so I was just curious about it.

gibbeynator: Oh hey, it's the 2008 prototype of No Man's Sky. Did they ever fix that terrible bug where there was absolutely nothing to do in the back half of the game?
The Back Half of the game being bad is not a "bug" but a major design screw up. A "Bug" is a technical programing issue.
To use an example;a scratch on a DVD or CD is a "Bug",but the movie or music being bad is a design problem.

I echo bring on "C and C" and "The Sims" from the EA Catalog.

I don't know this first-hand, but seems:

The Creature Creator was released prior to the game itself and that is why it exists as an entity. The editor is included in the base game. WIkipedia says, "The software is automatically superseded by Spore when it is installed, since the Creature editor is already present on the game." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spore_Creature_Creator

Seems no one mentioned but GOG keys working with Origin . I activated them on Origin too . So you don't need to buy from there again :D

Nice, bought.

Luned: Our old physical copy ran fine offline. You just don't have your game populated with things other people have created.

CelineSSauve: Considering some of the reviews describing some of those creatures...that might be a good thing.
Yup

Yeah, and Spore wasn't a prototype of No Man's Sky either. I would assume that gibbeynator's comment was just sarcastic.
