Breath of new life.

SpellForce 2 Anniversary Edition a cult-favorite mix of RPG/RTS in a revitalized package, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com.

By the year 2007, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars and its expansion SpellForce 2: Dragon Storm swept across the gamersphere, garnering a cult following for its mix of RPG and RTS elements in a bold, coherent, and–most importantly–absolutely fun experience.

A decade later, SpellForce 2 Anniversary Edition is here to breathe a new life into the series with a rebuilt multiplayer experience as well as numerous gameplay and bug fixes. Combining both SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars and Spellforce 2: Dragon Storm, the Anniversary Edition is a completely free upgrade to all owners of both original products, and an affordable upgrade (67% off) if you only own the base game.
Sweet, gives a reason to fire it up again..........cheers.

phaolo: Oh, it has arrived! Thank you! : )

Now I'll wait for someone to test the new version to see if everything is ok..
I'm sure it will get some patching over time
Thanks GOG crew, I really appreciate this free update =)

Grargar: By the way, Spellforce 2 Anniversary Edition joins the list of games that do have a manual, but not as an extra. Instead, it is located in the game's installation folder.

Hikage1983: A derivative of that i suppose yes. But the 2.01 patch never fixed it and it also persisted in the physical Gold edition (also bundled in the Universe box). Dunno aobut steam edition as i never bought that. My experience comes from the original first prints (starforce Shadow Wars+ Dragon Storm which introduced the bug in the first place) and SP2 Gold from the SP Universe package. Wasnt that particular bug the very reason SW and DS were sold separately here on GoG? After all, the bug is not present in a vanilla SW installation.

Grargar: I see. I currently have the game installed, so I could give it a go if the problem shows up early in the game.
Eh. Its quite alrite really. Im sure someone from THQN will drop by to address this eventually. It is a hit and miss thing after all. May happen 30mins in or 30 hours in or not at all. Thanks for taking the time to reply tho. Happy Easter. :)
Ok I am officially confused now. It mentions a discount if you own the old game but I can't find the old game anywhere in the library. Strangely one of the expansions mentioned is still listed though but doesn't seem to require the original. So what is this exactly and what does it replace?

OK then. Happy Easter to you too.
Always a nice surprise when one of your old games gets a refresh.

Prior to the release of the Anniversary Edition, GOG was selling 3 Spellforce 2 games:

1) Shadow Wars
2) Dragon Storm
3) Demons of the Past

After the release of the Anniversary Edition, Shadow Wars and Dragon Storm were removed from the store. If you happened to have Shadow Wars, you would get a 67% discount on the Anniversary Edition, while if you had both Shadow Wars and Dragon Storm, you would get it for free.

Demons of the Past still remains and can be bought and played without the need to own the Anniversary Edition.

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST SNIFFLES- JUST FOUND OUT
Neat, I still play the original game from time to time. Downloading now and will check on the improvements later on, thanks for that Nordic Games. Still unfortunate that for newcomers the soundtrack isn't included, it's part of the reason I have such a high opinion of the game despite its flaws.
The anniversary edition appeared with no problem (thumbs up, GOG). Downloading now in order to check ASAP. Thanks, Nordic!!!

It's great that Spellforce 2 is now fully multilingual around here. Now, if GOG and the nice guys over at THQ Nordic could provide something similar for Spellforce Platinum, that would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thank you, THQNordic and GOG.COM
I have it on Steam, but since it is not installed I may not even have noticed the update had I not read about it here. I guess I should play it some day, had a lot of fun with the first one.

justanoldgamer: Thanks THQ Nordic. Now I just need to play the first ones even if it's probably not necessary as it rarely is, or ever. I have vague plans to switch back to Linux when I next upgrade computer so I need to play all my Windows only game before that. (I had switch from Linux to Windows because of work but that is no longer a factor)
Many Windows games are playable via Wine, check appdb.winehq.org to learn to what extend the game in question is supported by Wine.

Apart from that, you could hold a Windows installation just for games. I have one, though I use it very rarely by now, because most games I'm interested in run on Linux now.
