Well finally its here but since this is a standalone expansion that includes all the content from Sorcerer King its time to retire Sorcerer King from the store and add it to the standalone expansion aka Rivals as separate install file as with Fallen Enchantress. It is not fair to new buyers if they mistakenly buy beta version of Rivals aka Sorcerer King.

Either-way getting the game but Stardock its time to bury the standalone concept and go with the dlcs.

Fairfox: Deffo want, but it being a standalone rather than DLC meeeans I can't justify buying both titles until later down the line; way too much moolah in one go.

(Edz: I totes understand a loyalty discount, but since, as written, this is standalone, it seems waaay odd not to offer an incentive to newbies?)
It becomes a problem when a newbie pointlessly buys Sorcerer King which is in entirety included in Rivals :) That is the problem.

adaliabooks: So... should I still be looking to buy the original game and this or is this one of those new editions that basically replaces the original that Stardock seen to do?
Yes, it replaces the game entirely. Sorcerer King is now just a place holder.

Edit: So buy Sorcerer King: Rivals and forget about the other one.

Fairfox: As a newbie Imma confuzzeled; they're two separate releases, are they not? Hence why it lists about buying teh series on their respective GOGie game pages. Otherwise... Erk?
This is Sorcerer King Rivals: Sorcerer King vanilla + new features from the rivals "patch"

Stardock essentially trys to get you to buy the same game twice. They did it for a decade but in the time of dlcs this is infuriating.

The only positive is that they give 50% of to previous buyers.

Thanks, I'll pop this one on the wishlist and drop the old one then :)
A bit of extra content, slight UI improvements, a different winning condition and an editor... for an extra 15 Euros? Hm.

I feel much the same way. For me the "loyalty" discount is just not deep enough to justify what is effectively DLC. Certainly not getting more of my money until a higher discount is applied and reviews help justify the cost.
I wasn't impressed enough by Sorcerer King to buy a small improvement to the game for $20. It was fun enough the first time but the game really lacks replayability imo, which is a shame for a strategy game.
I tried to love Stardock's games but something about them feels a bit off. I don't know why but personally I just can't seem to enjoy their 4x titles. I can easily get in to different 4x may it be space or fantasy but stardock's ones feels a bit weird.
It all started with Elemental: War of Magic which was a disaster and one of the first example of early access fail (when early access was not popular). A lot of promises but little accomplishment (and a lot of bad communication happened there). They tried to fix it to save the initial investment by heavly modified it and that turn out to be Elemental: Fallen Enchantress which at least was given for free the owners of War of Magic. It was better but still far from what was first envisioned. Then they modified it and release Legendary Heroes.
From that a spin off (another modified version) was release named Sorcerer King and now Rivals.

Nothing wrong with getting paid for heavly modified version of the same game (which change the way it's played), if you like the genre it's a lot of new toys to play with. I just think that the 50% discount for previous customer it's a given.
Not sure if I want this one. I found Sorcerer King to be okay for a single playthrough, but clearly inferior to either version of Fallen Enchantress. I also particularly disliked the writing. Going by the description, it doesn't sound like they have fixed enough of my problems with the base game.

For me personally, I find it troubling to not produce this as dlc for the base game. The reason is fairly simple; SD gets to charge $30.00 instead of the a lower dlc price point.

In effect by putting out a stand alone game with tweaks and fixes they for all intents make the original game obsolete.

Anyone who is considering purchasing the game for the first time should clearly buy this iteration of the game and not the original.

I own the original and will not buy any more SD games until they hit the Ultimate version and they are done soaking customers over and over again.
I find it funny that they want $15 dollars more from me when the new game is only $5 more than the original game. The other thing is that I bought the original game when it was discounted more than 50% so the new game is more than twice the cost of the original.

I'm interested but will wait for it to be more steeply discounted.
