A pirate's life for me.

Sid Meier's Pirates!, the swashbuclking adventure/RPG of open-world exploration, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Who doesn't love a good pirate story? Anyone? Ok, that parrot squawk doesn't count so noone it is. But what is it that fascinates us so in these romanticized depictions of piracy? Is it the action? The adventure? The mythical treasures? The laaaadies? Well, Sid Meier's Pirates! has got all that plus another indispensable element of debonair villainy: style.

Crew up your ship and unleash your mischievous charm upon an unsuspecting Caribbean. This vast, colourful playground will soon become the backdrop to your legendary exploits as you sail, trade, plunder, swordfight, and even raid at will. Style yourself as either an agreeable privateer or a ruthless marauder and when you feel ready to settle down, make sure you don't miss the opportunity to woo a governor's comely daughter by showing off your dancing moves. Granted, parrots, hooks, and peg legs make for fine accessories, but nothing looks as good on you as the fair arm of a beautiful maiden.

Get hooked in the playfully romantic and opportunistic life of Sid Meier's Pirates!, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until April 5, 13:59 BST / 5:59 AM PDT / 8:59 AM EDT.

apehater: i forgot to ask, are there any parrots in this game? can the player have one on his shoulder?
Not in-game, but it's never too late to take your role-playing a little too far. ;)

:) i can't afford such a parrot, the big clever ones are expensive and need much time. if i could, i would run around with a big hyacinth macaw on my shoulders. they're awesome!

there is no way that your linked picture display the same person!
So will this actually work unlike the Steam version?

InfraSuperman: Nah, Archon Ultra was terrible.

Let's get Archon and Archon Classic instead...

It would be particularly fancy if The Light and the Dark was bundled with Adept. Not as good of a game, but nostalgia demands!

Fairfox: The Steam version doesn't work? I AM INTRIGUED AND WOULD LIKE DETAILS. I don't want to go there, because lazeeeee(eee(e)).
I have box version and I remember that there was this thing on Windows XP that you had to download some dll file to make it work, maybe same thing... just guessing. It was long time ago, dunno how it's now.
It's unplayable for me, naval battles just tank the framerate for some reason.

Such a great game, well worth the money. I'd love to see a sequel to this game, or a modern remake.

LOL, that's funny. You do know this game is the second remake of the original already?

The original was from 1987 and the first remake from 1993. Both are also sold here as a pack.

Always worked fine for me as well, though I might not have played it since upgrading to W10.

Great game, definitely recommended.

Still on Windows 7, too...Mostly because privacy.

Fiddling with a Linux Mint and trying stuff from the adamhm threads in parallel, but i have yet to go fully Linux. Still a wee bit to become a gaming OS. But Win 10 seems to be less and less popular with the devs in our days.
I'm looking forward to starting this one - just installed it the other night but haven't been able to dive in yet. I might have to track down an eyepatch to wear while playing...
