A pirate's life for me.

Sid Meier's Pirates!, the swashbuclking adventure/RPG of open-world exploration, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Who doesn't love a good pirate story? Anyone? Ok, that parrot squawk doesn't count so noone it is. But what is it that fascinates us so in these romanticized depictions of piracy? Is it the action? The adventure? The mythical treasures? The laaaadies? Well, Sid Meier's Pirates! has got all that plus another indispensable element of debonair villainy: style.

Crew up your ship and unleash your mischievous charm upon an unsuspecting Caribbean. This vast, colourful playground will soon become the backdrop to your legendary exploits as you sail, trade, plunder, swordfight, and even raid at will. Style yourself as either an agreeable privateer or a ruthless marauder and when you feel ready to settle down, make sure you don't miss the opportunity to woo a governor's comely daughter by showing off your dancing moves. Granted, parrots, hooks, and peg legs make for fine accessories, but nothing looks as good on you as the fair arm of a beautiful maiden.

Get hooked in the playfully romantic and opportunistic life of Sid Meier's Pirates!, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until April 5, 13:59 BST / 5:59 AM PDT / 8:59 AM EDT.

Themken: :-) This was a lot of fun :-) and yes, the dancing gets on the nerves after a hundred times. Wishlisted <3
Pirates! Was definitely a good remake... one of the few. But yeah, the dancing mini game was maddening. After a while it just made you want to play as 'eternal bachelor pirate.'

I disliked the duelling too but that was me.
Well done GOG staff. :)

The wishlist entry does need to be completed though: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/sid_meiers_pirates_2004

It was the sneaking into town mini-game that I grew most tired of; that and the cut scenes after every combat. I was initially annoyed that they cartooned up the game whereas the original was much more gritty and real feeling, but after playing for awhile that no longer bothered me. It is a decent remake - would be even better with the ability to disable cut scenes and disable select mini-games (in exchange for a chance at success or something).

Maybe GoG staff is now all like "There was a wishlist entry?". :D

I don't see the bonus content, is it inside the game incorporated? The stuff that Firaxis website hosted until it got redesigned and the game's collector edition had on disc as bonus, with the extra sails, flags, colors, pirate haven music and reworked npcs! Is. It. Inside. Gog version?

LOL !
So, I really liked Pirates! Gold... this worth checking out or is it the same game with prettier graphics? If that's the case, I'll pass. Pirates! Gold is still piratey enough for me.

In pirates Gold, there were some gameplay elements that were removed from this newer one. And vice versa, in the newer game, there are some new gameplay elements, not present in Gold. Also, in Gold, there was a trick to keep playing your pirate forever, without urgent need to retire; not in the new one anymore, alas...

But yeah, roughly, the new one is like a Gold with prettier graphics. Gameplay-wise, Gold is better, especially for dusty old relics like us... Also, the bank theme of Gold is that amazing "What do we do with a drunken sailor" classic tune!

The new one has a plethora of new ships, though and that perfect, sweet "Ship of the Line" (THE, perfect warship, the most coveted prize to jack)! Something about eras is different, too.

I must be weird because I never had a problem with the dancing. It was tough at first but I just practiced a little and got better at it.
HEY. GAME is UNPATCHED! Just WHERE is the 1.2 official patch? There are not even different swords to pick for swordfights! What is that?

Also, there is missing bonus content, it is not in the game!

There is no official 1.2 patch. There might be a community 1.2 patch but the official patches stop at 1.02
Two Australian classification icons? Surely the new (PG in a rectangle on yellow) supercedes the old (G8+)?

Playing on apprentice level, aren't you?
http://sidmeierspirates.wikia.com/wiki/Fencing

Note that when playing on Apprentice difficulty, the game will not let you choose a sword prior to any Fencing match. You will automatically use a Longsword for each battle.
