Be kind, rewind

<span class="bold">Shadwen</span>, a thrilling exercise in silent killing within a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 15% launch discount.

Time stands still as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she doesn't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold, and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you execute any action, time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden or use distractions, thus sparing young Lily the horrible sight of this muffled violent dance.

Put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and keep your murders quiet as you become <span class="bold">Shadwen</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until May 24, 1:59 PM UTC.

ElizabethOzborn: Does anybody know if the GOG version of Shadwen comes with the 'Level Editor'?

The game is supposed to be mod friendly and allow you to create your own levels and mods. But from what I've read, it looks like the 'Level Editor' is only available with the Steam version of the game.

If this is true, then it really stinks! Cause I hate Steam and I'll never use it!
Yes. Unfortunately the Editor is only available through Steam, and we are not planning to make any changes to this because we have linked the sharing with the Steam Workshop feature.

I hope you can still enjoy the game. Cheers!

this is no good.
I'm playing on mac so I know there is no editor, but I thought that the windows gog version was with the editor...
If what you say is true it means that those who buy the game on gog pays the same price as those who buy it on steam but does not receive the editor. This is unfair.

The fact that the achievements are in-game is a good thing, but the editor is not a small feature.

I don't understand why link the sharing with the Steam Workshop... and you cannot force people to buy a game 2 times (and/or use steam) only to access the editor.

Shadwen is a lots of fun, and I plan to review it after the end, I plan to give it 5 stars if it is fun until the end (I'm at level 9 right now).... But I will need to warn everybody about the editor.
At this point those who want to buy DRM-free Shadwen with the editor can only buy it on Humble Bundle, still who want to use the editor (and I think the mods too at this point) need to use steam.

All this means:
no mods by gog users
gog users will not come back to play the game with mods
gog users will try to pay less for Shadwen, and will discourage the purchase of the game.

Among other things I was hoping to use the mods on the mac version (even without being able to use the editor).

Just to be clear, I still love Shadwen and I still like it even without mods (I usually just play every game with no mods, and since I know there is no editor for mac and linux version I knew that I could not use it without change OS)... still I don't like the fact that the editor is steam only.
I can understand that is windows-only but I cannot understand why is steam only.

I guess I'll make sure to pick it up in a sale, considering it's missing a major feature.

I am sure it means no map editor for gOg users... map editor and custom maps is not the same as modding.

well, what else you would mod in this game?

Adding custom maps with a built in editor is not called modding.... Modding is short for modification or modify, this is clearly not the case.

and for your question, no idea as I do not have the game yet. But modding would involve for example creating custom characters? equipment? new enemies? game play mechanics?

edit - and the above do not rely on map editors, but modification of game files. Mod friendly games usually have very open structures, or someway of side-loading (or what-ever it is called) custom scripts. Those scripts can be delivered outside Steam workshop, as with Bethesda games in general

ok, if the problem is not call it mod ok... still there is no map editor on gog windows version, and steam workshop usually is a place where you can download mods...

EDIT. I think any modification to a game (if not official) can be called mod.

indeed, and so is for example Nexus or ModDB. If Shadwen is mod friendly, it will be easy enough to get mods there. Mods do not relay on Workshop.

I don't want to be rude, this is not the point.

My point is the missing map editor on windows gog version.

and I never questioned this, I even said so myself - what I have an issue with is:

"All this means:
no mods by gog users
gog users will not come back to play the game with mods"
Which is not the same, as I said earlier.

edit - indeed, depending on how mod friendly Shadwen is, it may even be possible to have custom maps outside Workshop. Granted the editor only works there, but it maybe the case that the maps created can be moded to work without steam. I don't know yet.

Anyway they offer a steam code if you own a gog version and you mail to the support:

I appreciate the reply MarjutFB, but I really hope you'll change your mind about this. There is no reason why GOG users can't create mods and share them on a site such as Nexus.

In fact, Nexus is my prefered method of getting mods and unlike the Steam Workshop, everybody can use them. So there's really no need for us to use the Steam Workshop.

Sure, we won't be able to use mods that are only released on Steam. But lots of mod author's have no trouble releasing their creations on both Steam and Nexus.

So I really hope you'll reconsider this. Because it's incredibly unfair to GOG users.

If not, then I think a warning needs to be posted on the GOG store page to let people know they aren't getting the full game.

Again, thanks for the reply.

Yes, GOG wants to make sure you give them their share before you realise that a feature that seemingly adds huge replay value to the game is missing from their version. Ah, the business world #whodoesntlieforaquickbuck

this is a good thing for people that already got the Gog version... (I got it for a prize).
Also I don't think is gog fault if the map editor is linked to Steam Workshop.

GOG chose to sell it with that feature missing.
