No jokes that way.

<span class="bold">Serious Sam's Bogus Detour</span>, a frantic top-down shooter with chaotic co-op and versus modes, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 10% launch discount and GOG Galaxy crossplay support. Owners of another Serious Sam game or Hammerwatch get an additional 10% off.

Sam is not joking around, as the monsters littering the beautiful pixelated locales of the Mediterranean are about to find out. Team up with friends to tackle the campaign and face the Survival challenges in co-op or turn your miniguns against each other in Versus mode - Bogus Detour is pure, breathless fun any way you slice it.

The 10% discounts will last until June 27, 2PM UTC.

Watch the hilarious trailer.

Leroux: Any Serious Sam experts in here? As someone who's never played any of the games in the series, I must say the number of installments available and their naming is quite confusing. Serious Sam First and Second Encounter, First and Second Encounter HD, Classics: Revolution, Serious Sam 2, Serious Sam BFG, and then all those indie titles ... What are the differences, which games did you think were the best and which ones should I stay clear off? Are they all just arena / arcade / wave based shooters without much story to it? Do some have more varied gameplay, opponents and settings than others? It seems most players prefer the classic non-HD first game, and the HDs and Serious Sam 2 aren't that well liked - why is that (disregarding any issues related to DRM)?
Series order:
SS TFE > SS TSE > SS BFE
SS2 is a sequel to the Xbox version of Serious Sam which combined SS TFE and TSE into one game. It is also shit.
Would recommend picking up TFE and TSE as those are the best ones. You can just play the HD versions they are almost completely the same and just look better.
Multiplayer Notice: Please note that the GOG Galaxy Client is required to access Multiplayer
A shame, since the co-op sounded fun. The developer's other game Hammerwatch certainly was, and worked great playing with my friends, some of whom had their copies on Steam. The rest were GOG copies I gifted around. No Galaxy required, and cross-play worked without a hitch.

At least this makes my decision easy; will not wishlist/purchase or recommend to friends.

Sorry for the mostly-negative post, but the Galaxy requirement is becoming more and more common. If a separate program is required to be installed and running in order to play certain sections of a game, then the game loses one of the main selling points of being on GOG (DRM free).

I do understand the potential benefits for the developer of having access to the multiplayer API in Galaxy, but surely in this case they already have their own multiplayer code from previous games that could have been adapted to this game? Instead there's now the Galaxy API version and Steam API version for the online code.

Added to the list of shame.

I really don't get why this hasn't got local co-op. It would fit perfectly and is even advertised with it in the video.

If you don't mind old graphics then go for Classic Serious Sam TFE and Serious Sam TSE.
If you want some shiny new graphics then go for Serious Sam HD games.
Serious Sam HD Gold is collection of HD games.
Serious Sam Classic: Revolution is early access game which will have both Serious Sam TFE and TSE in one updated Serious Engine 1.
If you get BOTH Serious Sam HD: TFE and TSE then by default TFE gets added as a separate level in TSE.
Serious Sam 2 is whole different thing. It's not that bad.
All games are so similar in gameplay that you might feel you are playing same game.
As for DRM Serious Sam 3 had a scorpion which would follow you if you pirated the game.
At current 90% off get Serious Sam HD Gold.
I got the whole series by selling trading cards.

HD version is better in all ways except one. No split screen multiplayer. I miss couch coop with the HD versions. If you don't care about that the HD versions are the way to go.

Actually with the new Fusion version which is free if you own the HD versions...
The HD games now support splitscreen.
A bit torn on this one. Looks like two tons o' fun, yet my brothers and sisters here make a good point about the online play. And yet again, I'm likely never going to play it co-op. I'd like to play the game, but that then gives the developer the impression that I don't care about those features that other gamers want - and that I generally agree with.

Hey, Crack-Cro-Devolve, add at least one of those other non-Galaxy multiplayer modes for the gOg version and I'll buy a copy.

Windforce: My wishlist for this game

1.) local co-op/pvp
2.) Multiplayer is available online via GOG Galaxy, as well as via LAN and Direct IP. All multiplayer connection methods are cross-compatible with the Steam version of the game

I will only buy Serious Sam's Bogus Detour if the game contains one of these two points. Games are not DRM free if GOG Galaxy is required for multiplayer connections.
Same. I buy a LOT of games on GOG and this stuff absolutely drives me crazy. The "Galaxy only" multiplayer trend is especially troubling. What was wrong with the Hammerwatch model, having local co-op and direct IP connections? Why has the technology regressed? Why are the developers less capable than they were before?

And what will happen if GOG decides that supporting Galaxy multiplayer is no longer worth developing and it becomes deprecated like gamespy was several years ago?

I think its not that they are less capable, but simply with galaxy it is easier and faster snd hence less expensive for them to do it this way
Am just not loving this game. Played the first level and most of the second and its all a bit meh. Control with controller was pretty hard so swapped back to K&M. Screen is a bit jerky when moving diagonally. The areas are big and mostly the same, couldn't find a map. Also, if you die a couple of times - like on level 2 when I gave up, I had spent half an hour exploring then got killed and had to start all over, boring! Then there is the weapon selector, when did right click drag towards the weapon become a useful feature? Graphics, 50/50, some look ok, some not so, and maybe the 2d perspective doesn't work for me. For instance with bombers you would shoot them in the leg to stop them, then run away and shoot them again to not take damage, can't do that here. So its really not the 5/5 stars that the reviews have given (note I only play single player, it may be better in co-op).
