DNMR2K5: That's the thing, there are no alternatives for the E key, if you change E then that nullifies the original bindings as E is not listed and E cannot be bound to space, nor anything else without disabling talk/action, at least in the demo that I'm playing…
eric5h5: Oh, yeah, looks like they neglected to include the action button in the key binds UI. Seems more like an oversight than deliberately locking it, since you can bind E to whatever. I've encountered a few games that do actually lock certain keys and prevent you from rebinding them at all. They probably should have spent more time on polishing some areas, mostly the UI; the demo has a fair amount of jank.
Don't knock it until ya try it; unless of course you already have, then, fair point…
I just find it far more comfortable as you don't need to stretch the fingers, as they're already lying forward.
eric5h5: Assuming you're using WASD for movement, and assuming your fingers are at least vaguely human-like, there's no way to do arbitrary movement + jumping simultaneously without a lot of very uncomfortable contortions. With space, your thumb is already resting there anyway, so there's no stretching. E works well enough for an action button since you use it relatively infrequently.
Whelp, I have to defer to the irrefutable…
Yes, you're correct, though for me, I simply don't move right while jumping! x^D
But in all seriousness, people who do not type have to look down in order to see which key to press, unlike typists who have a fond familiarity of all keys without the need to take their eyes off of the screen.
So I am not as comfortable with the space bar's use as an action button,
(Though finding it without visually locating it is quite simple) as I don't repeatedly use it in succession as I would an action button, so I use E instead… Maybe it's about time I learned to type!
