"But if you tame me, then we shall need each other".

The developers promised to deliver a DRM-free version of the game and this is them honoring that promise!

RiME, the beautifully evocative puzzle adventure of a boy and a fox exploring a wondrous island, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

You are unsure of what lies ahead and how to approach it. Guided by your instincts and inherent curiosity, you follow this strange fox and start studying the environment for clues, secrets, and hidden interactions. The beauty of the island and its strange inhabitants will eventually reveal themselves to you but when that happens, will you still be that same impressionable boy?

The 10% discount lasts until June 23, 1PM UTC.

In the Press:

"In paring back its design and focusing on only a few key elements, the studio has created an uncommonly beautiful, open-hearted game." - 9/10 EDGE

"I haven't played anything like this since Journey. It is a stunning game to explore and exist in, and the story is going to move a lot of people." - 9/10 God is a Geek

Watch the lovely trailer.

Lobuno: I hope people you know that implementing DENUVO (or any other intensive DRM) costs a lot of money, time an resources. For all of that you will be paying extra instead of proper game resources if you happily support that behaviour. I myself prefer better game mechanics, graphics, support, etc...
That's... probably true, considering the most likely crazy regional pricing scheme for this game. In regIT (Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Greece and Portugal) it's got a 31% surcharge: $35.54 vs. $26.99.

PS: though in the end it's GOG who's gonna pay for the difference. I sometimes wonder why do they allow these abuses from devs/publishers...

Also, they screw over and present shitty performance to initial buyers (who are supposed to promote the game if it's any good) and make the release of a non-crippled version contingent on the risky and probably illegal unpaid volunteer work. That's stupid and assholish in the extreme.

I'd preordered Sexy Brutale. This I wishlisted, waiting for 75% off.

Djaron: so after they released the game with paranoiac settings on their denuvo crap like 30 triggers/sec (of course, with NO IMPACT on game performances, you can guess)

now they finaly got thgeir denuvo cracked at the speed of light (matter of DAYS, or so i heard) they come here, tail between legs and head down, in hope they could at least scrap some more cash from DRM-Free customers community ?

i see that as a form of insult if you ask me, and would it only be in my hands, i'd have kicked their ass back to where they come from...

i didnt check yet the PR speech before game's launch and such, but would i do that, i can't be sure i wouldnt find some same anti "drm free customers" badmouthing as i saw one year ago from gremlins inc devs as well

for future devs: NEVER EVER badmouth and spit on drm free community when launching a game, especially denuvo
loaded, by thinking you will be protected. It will help you not looking like an idiot when you crawl back from your cave, licking your hacvked drm wound and come here to beg for coins !

you could rather say: we plan for a release on drm free platform in the future, but we yet prefer to focus on major platform release first for now. it is ok, peeps can understand that, no offense taken, and in case things turn sour and wrong, you keep your dignity
Indeed, and then I saw the price. lol, see you in 2-3 years, RiME.

This reminds me of an awesome series

I wonder if we'll see Grey Goo here?
Was wondering when or if this would show up here once they gutted that cancer of a DRM from their game. Glad to see we didn't have to wait long. Wishlisted for now, but definitely one I'm keeping my eye on.
The first thing coming to mind every time I read the title is Myst, which as an age of the same name.

adaliabooks: I have absolutely no problem with this method of DRM, if you want to protect the initial few weeks or months of a new release from piracy and then release it DRM free then go ahead.
Except that was never the intention. If the DRM hadn't been cracked after 8 years (where all the initial sales are long done), they would never have released a DRM-Free version. This is what they said themselves. Only a non-DRM format will be out, if it's successfully cracked, not after initial sales.

I actually don't have as much of a problem, if it's done to only protect initial sales (but removed thereafter). But, I find it important to stress that this isn't the case here, and sadly, for a majority of the developers/publishers who uses the copy protection.

@Topic
Huh. Part 2 of the infamous Denuvo fashion line. Since GOG happily accepts most of their games, why don't they plan for a genuine release here instead of trudging through the mess invoked?

It's unfortunate that Denuvo was used in the first place, but what we get is still way better than what happened to Tekken 7:
1) Tekken is released with Denuvo.
2) Tekken 7 is cracked in 4 days.
3) Bandai Namco releases a patch... updating Denuvo to a newer version.
btw: releasing a game on GOG is planned months, but at least weeks before it happens.
So the release here was actually planned - shame they did not say anything about it at the time, so we could have avoided the complaints now.

Planned? maybe.

But if it was, it wasn't we'll release on the 16th of June, it was we'll release a week after the game is cracked. Had this version and implementation of Denuvo been as resitant as pervious versions it could have been over a year before we saw it here.

That's puts GoG at a disadvantage. Instead of releasing the same day on Steam and GoG which allows people to choose based on the merits of the platform, its released on Steam with no mention of a GoG release.

Yes the developers said "once cracked we won't patch a new version of Denuvo in", but they never directly said they'd remove the previous version of Denuvo, they most definitely didn't say remove all DRM nor said anything about releasing on GoG.

So from a consumers view this was only ever going to be a Steam release. It was buy it there or not at all.

Now I'm grateful it is here, but GreyBox's attitude is rather pungent, and I feel little compulsion to buy the game.

I wouldn't be so sure. I mean - sure, they probably considered it but I'm confident the guys at GOG would permit it much faster if it's a high-profile release.

Me, I'm buying this a second time after picking it up on Xbox. Gotta support DRM-free!

We are very committed to this, but also to the simple fact that nothing is infallible. That being said, if RIME is cracked we will release a Denuvo free version of RiME and update existing platforms.

Thanks for the link. I'm only aware of the PC Gamer interview, where the language used by the developer was ambiguous .
great to see this game here! thanks Baldman.

btw - this game has some strange regional pricing, like 30% more expencive in europe, I hope it is not new trend here...
