Warlock and load.

Project Warlock is now available DRM-free, only on GOG.com.

Imagine if DOOM and Hexen got drunk one night and ended up skinny dipping. The pile of discarded clothes would perfectly fit Project Warlock, a retro-styled FPS with frantic combat featuring spells, guns, and ugly baddies waiting to be blown up in satisfying ways.

Project Warlock is an original, timed GOG exclusive launch title.

Linko90: I spent 2 hours messing on with the visual filters to create some kind of ZX Spectrum drug trip style. Time well spent.
Oh those filters... just superb, eh?

Pretty cool dev (also he's polish, so it's a no brainer releasing it here first) and I personally think it's a great deal for gog and for us overall; drm-free-o, supreme price tag... also it's a modern release that looks a tad retro, so it's more up our alley here! :P

Random_Coffee: Of course, it is extremely inconvenient, and only recommended if you've finished the game dozens of times already and looking for a new challenge :P That thing is awesome for fighting games though.

ZyroMane: You know what a fight stick works well with? Hovertank 3-D!

MarkoH01: That is not exactly true. You can also switch weapons by cycling through the weapons directly and these keys can be reassigned as well. I use mousewheel for doing this but I noticed those keys. The number keys are referring to certain types/slots of weapons - not the weapons directly.

So I did not need any script yet. :)

ZyroMane: WeaponNext / WeaponPrev? Or bind this key specificaly for shotgun type deal? I cluster the weapon keys around movement in the classics. W, R, A, and G as well as MWHEELUP, MWHEELDOWN, and MOUSE3 for Doom. Not optimal, but it works for me. I also like MOUSE5 for +MOVEUP and MOUSE4 for +MOVEDOWN in most games. Now if I only knew how to combine MOVEUP and JUMP in the Eternity Engine for when Hexen support arrives.
No, I only meant prev weapon/ next weapon. If I am not mistaken it's not possible to use a number key to get a specific weapon since one number only switches to a certain weapon slot which you still have to press multiple time if you wish to select a specific weapon.

Mawthra: It's a timed exclusive... therefore I have no problem with it. Who knows the dev's situation, besides... they might be a small team and don't want to service two or more stores for the initial launch... I think they're also from Poland, so they may have an affinity to GOG... that's pure speculation on my part, but I still don't see a problem with a timed exclusive... it brings more attention to the game, to GOG potentially gaining new users, so that can't be a bad thing, can it?
No need to speculate about their reasons. The already posted them here.

Who said GOG was paying them. According to the devs it was their decision (taken from the link above).

"One thing to stress here is – we decided to Partner with GOG.com to deliver the first brand new title that is a GOG.com exclusive."

Awesome, thanks for sharing that, I hadn't seen that until now... I was pretty close in my speculations, though ;)

There's nothing saying that their decision had nothing to do with a little possible extra recompense from GOG. (Maybe GOG taking a smaller cut than they normally would, maybe an up-front payment, maybe free handjobs and sandwiches.)
And, while the dev's stated reasons didn't include having a home country in common with GOG, I don't think it would be unwarranted to assume that might have been some small factor in their decision, as well. : )

Might be, of course (though I doubt the HJ part :D) - but as you said, we can only assume this. So the complaint that GOG actually payed PW to get a timed exclusive is also only based on an assumption. Let's just say that I doubt GOG would have rejected the game here if it weren't exclusive. Obviously both partys agreed that this would be the best way to sell this game. So imo it's unlikely that GOG will now try to get as many exclusives as possible for future releases (which was what the user was fearing and complaining about). Of course that is also just an assumption though ;)

And we should be able to rebind wepon slots like in contemporary Doom engines. fist/chainsaw and shotgun/supershotgun are things but they're rebindable and it's a nice, modern feature. Other 90s games had multiple weapons hardcoded to one key as well, and that's not the issue. How many weapons are on each slot by the way? More than two is probably too many, but I like less weapons in an fps myself. I don't want another Quake 2, in which I had most of the left side of the keyboard bound to an action by the second expansion. Didn't help that the game had a big inventory on top of multiple weapons, no multi-weapon slots, and an inventory that included the weapons so that inventory and weapon selection could only be seperated by binding all inventory items. That's a game I don't want to play on a harder difficulty, thanks.
Bought it this morning and put 9 hrs of gameplay into it. Amazing game! The nods to classic titles were amazing but make no mistake this game stands out from the rest. Definitely a must play.

Interesting, i will buy because i need a real FPS right now.

This game is actually pretty bad. Whoever made this should be ashamed of even asking money for it.

Comparing this to Doom is blasphemy.
EDIT: Never mind.

Dont know why Im getting auto downvoted by fanboys and sheeps who probably didnt even play it. This game is super cheap compared to Ion Maiden and is nothing but a cash grab aimed at our nostalgia. It feels like a poor Minecraft mod.

You didn't even play it! XD

You criticize a game you DIDN'T play = okay
People criticize a post they DID read = not okay

Makes sense. :P

I know why GOG doesn't kick you, you are a gold mine. When you shit on a game everyone automatically goes out and buys it, I know I do! :P You're the best thing that ever happened to this place!

No, you are getting downvoted because you are a troll account.

Speaking of something more interesting than the user (?) above... is there an estimated date for the new patch? I bought the game day one but I am waiting for that one before starting to play.

I actually did play the game and uninstalled after no more than 10 minutes. I love retro games to death and wouldn't dare bash a good one just to 'troll'.

@Tiny Dont even act like you dont already systematically buy anything that GOG releases just so you can feel like you're part of something. Its because of people like you that the quality of the curation is on a steep decline, no reason to bother releasing good games if people like you buy them regardless.
