Warlock and load.

Project Warlock is now available DRM-free, only on GOG.com.

Imagine if DOOM and Hexen got drunk one night and ended up skinny dipping. The pile of discarded clothes would perfectly fit Project Warlock, a retro-styled FPS with frantic combat featuring spells, guns, and ugly baddies waiting to be blown up in satisfying ways.

Project Warlock is an original, timed GOG exclusive launch title.

hedtrip: Haves not pad controller support?
avatar
CharlesGrey: Given that it's heavily inspired by classic PC Shooters, it could be the devs intentionally ignored gamepads.

That said... All of the classic FPS games, such as Doom, Quake, Hexen, Duke etc. also had console versions back in the day, many of which were released back when gamepads didn't even have analogue stick controls, and they still worked just fine. Does this game have full manual aim, or does it work like the classic Doom games?
The thing is...controller works fine (up-down-start) at title screen and nothing at options screen and only start button at play screen,
My question is if the game haves controller pad support or not seeing that.
And remaping keys does not works fine.
If the game haves not pad support,ok for me (i will refund because a handicap) but only want to know it :)

tinyE: Wait, no save points? :P

How does that work?
As Buckshot said in the pre-release thread:

In short – there is no midway checkpoints r manual saves throughout the level. If you die on one level you replay it from the start provided you got into a tight spot and didn’t pick up any health pickups. But this is not a game where two hits are instakill. Not on lower levels that is. And a run through the level can take between 2-10 minutes. With each run nearing the lower number once you are familiar with the layout.

Hope this clears things up :)

So if there are no save points, does that mean it's a roguelike FPS like Ziggurat? Is there any randomization?
I could be wrong here, but Im pretty sure tinyE was joking, guys. Shooters didn't have save points back in the days of Doom.

I don't play many shooters these days, and there are a ton of them done in this same old-school style. I really love the graphics though. They really make this one stand out. Purchased.

I am able to remap the controls to a gamepad. There doesn't appear to be controls for looking up and down with the pad, but I assume thats not necessary. The pad controls do seem to be a little wonky though. I don't think there is any deadzone either, which is annoying.

Which pad do you have?
A DEV tolds me a few minutes ago he works on the game with logitech F710 and will take a look.
For me with Xbox one (wired or not) it's impossible to remap.
Can't detect X Y LB RB LT RT select start right stick and cross.Only A B and left stick, and no easily left right.
Xpadder may works?

The impression I got was you still keep progress, there are just no midlevel saving i.e. saving right before a tough enemy so you don't have to repeat the level.

Their wording is messed up, but that's the jist i got. You die, you start the level over. You beat the level, you can save and move onto the next.

Ok. So it sounds like there is no manual saving and the player only gets end-of-level checkpoints. I wonder why they didn't add manual saving for an FPS game...

Check Linko's post to me.

It sounds like a classic platformer that plays like an FPS. Think Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Ghost & Goblins.

Okay, DON'T think Ghost & Goblins. That game was IMPOSSIBLE!

after playing it a bit i'd say it's because the levels were more or less designed with making it in one go in mind. they're not massive hexen-esque things. they're smaller and dense with badguys. that's not a knock against it fyi.

So the game is like a trial-and-error FPS? Is there a map editor included?

MrFortyFive: I know what I'm playing tonight
Guess who's got an itchy finger to click install this beast of game into the new 16gba i7 company's pc aka "a machine perfectly fit for gaming".

HA!

Guess who'll get home dying to dig this monstrocity, this gory-fest-ish demon slaying of a game but will probably end up sleeping on the couch?!

HA!! ;P

BitViking: Is it just me or is it locked to 30fps?

barjed: It is not. I am playing at 60 fps atm with v-sync enabled.
Are you planning to add resolutions above 1080p? I can't select 1440p.
Also framerates above 60 would be nice. I don't see a vsync option even.

Is there any way to zoom out the minimap?

The price is right, the game is fun... but I'll wait and see if it gets a Linux version.
Bought the game, even though I REALLY didn't want to buy a game for a while, but the developer seemed like someone who genuinely cares, actively answered questions on the forums, and the fact that the games released first on GOG is genuinely awesome.
