How is this GOG sinking to a low? Just because they're willing to sell the game? Or provide a copy to the backers that got hosed out of their physical copy? I don't follow the reasoning here.

No one got hosed, they'll still be getting their collector's boxes.

Also (re: cliqist link), maybe it's just me, but something about a news website layout makes it uniquely unsuited to whiny shit. If it were a forum post I wouldn't even blink; people who paid money always have the right to complain. Bawling in a news item makes me sympathize with the target of bawling.

To be fair, the company did change their tune at the very last minute. Now those who pledged for a physical copy of the game will get one, though most of the details still remain unclear.

They did? Then I guess that linked article needs updating.

Yeah, the latest "backers only" update. The company expressed a shock that those that pledged for a physical copy of a game actually want to receive a physical copy of the game *gasp*.
Because the supplement material disc is supposedly already in printing, it will be shipped now, and a separate disc with a game will be printed an shipped at some time in an undetermined future.

From that article it sounds like people pledged for a physical copy of the actual game, not some fancy box with some shitty supplements but no actual game on the disc itself.

People complaining about that is pretty far from "whiny", even though it's fairly standard Kickstarter bait&switch bullshit.

This will probably be an advantage for them in the long run, as they'll likely end up with a fully patched (or almost fully patched) version of the game on disc.

Actually, not exactly. The company representative heavily implied that that they want to keep adding stuff to the game via DLCs for a long time. This is one of the reasons, why they apparently didn't want to issue a physical version, because they have no idea how to deal with the logistics of issuing patches for it.

I'll quote the exact phrase, as not to be misleading:
"I am not sure what "fully patched" means. :p Depending on how things go, I would looooove to be able to continue to add stuff. No promises here, but I view things we added like "Silent Night Mode" as a big win for the game. There may be opportunities to do additional things like that down the road."
AND
" I would like to make them [patches] available for download as well, but we haven't been able to figure out all the logistics of that."

Seriously? If they can't figure out the logistics of delivering patches or DLC to a disc-based version of the game - something that was done for years before the rise of digital distribution and game clients... then I have serious doubts they'd be able to deliver a playable game at all.

That's... just odd.
Ah, Kickstarter. The hall of broken dreams.

Manual:
1. Buy on GOG (Get your key for GOG if you're a backer).
2. Download the game installer from GOG.
3. Write to the disc.
4. Done! Here you have your physical copy of the game.
I opted for the physical collectors edition, which arrived this morning, and holy shit do I wish I hadn't bothered. It's of such poor quality am struggling to understand why they'd even send them out, I'd be embarrassed to put my name to the shit I received this morning. It's nothing like the pictures and just looks amateur all over, well done to those who didn't bother with the physical copy, you are wiser than I.
