Ever danced with the devils in the pale moonlight?

UPDATE: An evocative sound design is half the charm for any 2D platformer worth its salt. Momodora's intoxicating tunes are no exception, and you can now get them separately in the game's 21-track OST!
The soundtrack is 30% off until until February 1st, 2:00PM UTC.

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, a retro-styled action-platformer telling the tale of a persistent warrior priestess, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

This is a story about a cursed land crawling with all kinds of horrors and steeped in distrust and hopelessness. Kaho, a warrior priestess, is determined to end the darkness by seeking out her merciful queen's help. A beautiful dance of epic fights, brutal combos, well-timed dodges, and precision platforming begins under the perilous night sky. There is a certain romance to this senseless brutality but plenty of challenge too, as Kaho will need to stay focused and move swiftly, if she doesn't want this to be her last moonlight.

Fight your way through a beautiful land drenched in blood and despair in Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Impaler26: Neat release but why is Momodora III not available on GOG? :D

And if anyone wants to try the previous games - Momodora I and Momodora II are free.
Thanks for the links I downloaded the whole series(LOL) and donate a few bucks. Should I start from the first entire or does it matter?

I tweeted the developer about bringing the original trilogy to GOG, feel free to chime in:

P.S. GOG, it would be smart to help the dev make this happen, which I think would boost sales of the 4th entry.

Excellent, an instabuy for me and gives me hope that Bunny Must Die might show up here one day or Salt and Sanctuary which also looks good.

and voted for the rest of the momodora series, thanks Barry!
Has the Cave Story vibe, which I like. Wishlisted for now and will purchase it around June 15th.

EDIT: For all of you posting the links to the other games in the series, you guys are gentlemen/women and scholars. You all rock.

The games are story connected (with the 4th being a prequel AFAIK) so you should start with the first game. ;)

There's also another neat free game from the same creator:

It seems the developer liked your tweets. Is it a good sign or is it just how it works on Twitter ("I don't really know what to say, so here, let me like your tweet, instead.")?

But yeah, it would definitely help the sales. I don't want to start at what could be an arbitrary point (it's not the beginning, anyway), I want to start at the beginning and, if possible, on the same platform.
First couple of games in the series aren't great. This is by far the best one. You are more than okay with starting from here.

I think selling the original trilogy bundled together, ideally with some extras, is a good idea. Since the first two games are donationware and the third is only $2, I think $5 or $6 for the three of them would be reasonable.

+1 for those links. I've heard a lot of praise for the series - when I get the time I want to play through the first two. By then maybe the 3rd will be on GOG (hoping)

dtgreene: Does this game work in WINE?
Ha, beat me to it. :)

According to the AppDB, it should, the only issue being gamepad support (but it might be a configuration issue).
low rated
Serious question: Is every character in this game female? Because I just watched the trailer, and it doesn't have a single male in it. I'm starting to wonder if this was made by the team over at Jezebel.com.

There's at least a couple of male NPCs IIRC, but they weren't that important. I don't really mind either way.

te_lanus: Yes it works under plain wine with nothing overrides
Thank you!
I also want to whack demon boobies with a sword (1:11 on the trailer) ! Wishlisted.

Barry_Woodward: Amazing release, but what about the other games in the series? I know the first two are donationware and the third is only $2, but I think a bundle of all three for $5.99, with extras, would be palatable for both the dev and customers. Vote now! Completionists unite!
