Today we welcome two unique and award-winning adventure games from Square Enix in our store. Life is Strange tells a story of Max Caulfield, a photography senior who discovers she can rewind time while saving her best friend Chloe Price. After that, Max and Chloe uncover the dark secrets of Arcadia Bay city and the consequences of meddling with time.

The story of Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is set three years before the events of the first game. We follow sixteen-year-old Chloe Price who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber, a beautiful and popular girl whose family holds a dark secret. Like in the previous title, every player’s choice will have a tremendous impact on the game’s story.

Both Life is Strange and Life Is Strange: Before the Storm games are now available DRM-free on GOG.COM with an 80% discount until 15th June, 1 PM UTC.

shmerl: Older ports often aren't well optimized, especially since as Digital_CHE said, they aren't using Vulkan.

Orkhepaj: but isnt vulkan available on linux?
Simple explanation:
The native port uses OpenGL, which is much slower than Vulkan.
Therefore, the launch of win-version, even taking into account losses on the translation layer (wine + DXVK), allows you to get better overall performance (because the translation occurs in the calls of Vulkan, which, as I said, is much faster).

Imagine that you lose 5% of performance due to emulation, but you get +50% performance due to the fact that Vulkan is faster than OpenGL. And the final productivity is +45% (numbers in this example are random, just for understanding).

finkleroy: I've heard people say the Linux version has worse performance than the Windows version running in Wine. Food for thought.
Thanks, although I still prefer native versions for convenience (plus wine occasionally creates unexpected problems). I am confident my PC can handle any delays due to worse performance, as long as it's not a very recent game.

Would a macOS release be something we'll see? Of course this a question for the publisher, but still
