Long build the king.

Hearthlands, a medieval/fantasy city-builder that lets you rule over a procedurally generated world, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 30% launch discount!

Even a king cannot hope to fully control the whims of his subjects. What he can do, however, is manage the resources, build the right stuff, negotiate with neighboring or distant kingdoms, deal with heroes or wizardry, and generally make their lives interesting. While having tons of fun, obviously.

The 30% discount ends February 13, 4PM UTC.

I wonder if they are willing to udate their game on Groupees (it was in a "Build a Greenlight Bundle" years ago). The version there is still 0.3.2. Think I will send them a mail and ask them about it.

I was about to do the same thing. :D
I've bought this game (directly from their website) like a year ago while it was still in development, and I'd say:

1. It's very much like the "Zeus: Master of Olympus", "Pharaoh", "Caesar" games. Pretty much the same gameplay, except maybe with a bit of "Majesty" added in the form of monster dwellings on the map.

2. I enjoyed playing a few maps, but the game got boring quickly. The game seriously needs a campaign or something similar, where each map plays differently. And preferably not just different goals and "on this map you can't use that building" sort of thing, but preferably some more variety. Like maybe buildings/units unique to a given map/scenario. Something to improve replayability. As it stands, the best you can do is fiddle with map generation settings, and go for various achievements. Not enough to keep me playing.

3. Overall, I'd say the game is slightly overpriced. If it was half the price, I'd gladly recommend the game to people who enjoy city builders. Hopefully, the devs will add some more replayability.

Interesting game. A bit overpriced, but interesting nonetheless.

One for the devs: I'd REALLY love to see some UI / Menu improvements. I do get easily lost and uninterested on games where all menus look the same and have no backgrounds / divisory lines on them. That's what keeps me away from buying it.

Regarding that...I actually did that a while back on Steam!

...he said no. ._.

Failing that, I also asked them to exchange my unused Steam key for a brand new GOG key. One can only hope...

I did the same. Asked them to exchange my unused Steam key for a GOG or Humble Store key, if they are not willing to update the Groupees build. Let's hope they will do that.
Interesting:
'GOG also requested that the game was officially released and I took this as a sign.'

Contradictory:
'The development process won't change. There are still some things to do (improvements, suggestions, heroes). It is mostly just a numbers change. We're also are going to start transitioning from Early Access to Released status on Steam.'

So, GOG wanted it 'released' to cut a corner, meanwhile it is not on Steam.
Watched the video and it looked much like Zeus and Poseidon. I own them here on gog, so I think this is a wait for a 50% off sale before buying.
Looks a little bit like the settlers. Will propably give it a chance at the end of the week.
The more I look at this the more it gives me the feeling that the game is a mix of Caesar III, Beasts and Bumpkins and Knights and Merchants. Which is all good stuff.

This kind of city builder is right up my alley, but something holds me back. The price just seems to steep for this kind of game. Maybe i am just cheap. Anyway, wishlisted for now.

Lord_Kane: I do enjoy city builders a fair bit, but micromanagement is a problem, cost is a bit high too.

hummer010: It isn't really micromanagement either, its just, well, here's my memory of playing the tutorial:

Tutorial: First, we need houses. 12 houses should do for now. Each of the houses needs to be connected to a road

Me: Whoa, 12 houses already! That seems like a lot right out of the gate, and roads too. So I build a 6x2 grid of houses with a road to nowhere around them.

Tutorial: Now we need some farm houses. Build three farm houses connected by roads.

Me: Wait, my farmers need special houses? Why can't they live in one of the the other houses I just built? Ok, I build three farm houses and connect them to my other road with more useless road.

Tutorial: Now we need to feed our people. Plant 72 turnip plots.

Me:What?!? I have to click 72 times to plant enough turnip plots? Grumble, grumble ... at least the damn turnip plots don't have to be connected to useless roads

-----

I haven't played the tutorial in a while, so maybe it has changed. The farmers auto-farm stuff, but it's a lot of clicks to create turnip plots etc. And the useless roads early on seem pointless. It does get better though.
You can now click and drag to create a bunch of stuff - like turnip plots. The only issue I have with that is you still have to place a scarecrow in the middle of a 5x5 field to keep pests away so there is still some tediousness there. Nowhere near as bad as clicking 72 times though!

Tediousness! That's the word for it!
